ANC lied

I would hate to ask... but I'm sure the Americans & Europe will come to our aid.. :D
With all the crap of the ANC.. who do you think they will side with ?
We must just make sure they're there before we secede :D

But I'm sure we can stand up for ourselves :)

@ all legal eagles out there :

I know it's been laughed off before, but what would the stumbling blocks be to a serious secession attempt?

I mean The Cape Republic could be the first real multiracial, mulicultural success - couldn't it?
It will inevitably result in a civil war and given that many of the South African government's military installations are all over the Western Cape (Ysterplaat, SA Navy @ Simon's Town & Saldanha, etc etc) there may be some difficulty and any secession attempt will probably be crushed quickly.

I think the last successful attempt by a region seceding to form a sovereign state was Eritrea (1994?) and if memory serves that was with the aid of the UN.

Technically, Orania is a secession attempt, so perhaps there is a chance for Cape Town...

I welcome them.. but they must not think they will have a white only country... thats history
The WC is past that issue, and yes, we still have problems... but truth be told.. not like the rest of the country

In civil war... people on the homefront don't just shoot their own... they eventually join them
The bases... ANC controlled or not... it will change in the interest of your family and neighbours.. JIMO

But hopefully it will not reach that stage

Not without huge problems though ;)

Realistically though I doubt a seccession would be successful. Nice thought though. I think the idea they had for Orania is the way to go.... Just without their politics. Get a referendum going find out exactly how many people would be interested. Get them and or companies who would like to be part of this idea, ask for donations, plea the case to the rest of the world, get donations that way and then buy a huge feck off piece of land with a coast line so it's not landlocked and then build it from the ground up.

Obviously the ANC feels threatened and feels sore about handing over any power locally to anyone else. This is akin to what Chavez did in Venezuela where he appointed governors to overule any local mayors, even though the mayors themselves were democratically elected.

ANC are just sore loosers and want to ensure control - at all costs. It's dangerous but it's also something we can expect from them.

If people just sit back and accept this from the crooks of the ANC... then they are spineless and deserve the sh*t the ANC gives them.. for me... I WILL fight

Anyone with access to legal textbooks etc. who could see if there are in fact any precedents for secession anywhere?

Maybe someone who could say if it could be done - not why it can't be done.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but ...

@ Mods - could we have a poll please? (In a new topic, of course).

If the Western Cape were to secede from the rest of South Africa to become, say, The Cape Republic, and it was a country where skin colour would be irrelevant, where government would actually consist of public servants, where our taxes are spent on things that matter (such as education), where the currency would have some international worth, where the concept of entitlement was shunned, where we would actually be proud to live, etc. etc. etc.

Would you (in principle) :

a. support the action?
b. oppose the action?
c. move out of the Cape
d. move to the Cape
e. not be bothered either way

Thanks!

I thought I made it clear it is possible?

There is no legal precedent for this in SA. Just bear in mind it may be construed as a coup attempt by the ANC government. The difficulty will be in that it will not be a peaceful secession in any way. But possible it very much is. As for your poll later on:

IF it were not rendered a war zone, I would move to the Cape Republic in a heart beat.

Read Justification for Secessions here -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secession

From what I can gather would have to get worse before any secession would be justified and not from one draft bill although. ->

Escaping “discriminatory redistribution,” i.e., tax schemes, regulatory policies, economic programs, etc. that distribute resources away to another area, especially in an undemocratic fashion

Ultimately your dreams of secession would first need be taken up by a political party and be voted for by the majority of that area, so lets not get so radical over one draft bill just yet.

Thanks for that kingmonty - but I said "anywhere", meaning "are there any case studies (anywhere) of where secession has resulted in a new country?"

As for it not being peaceful, maybe we could hire the Lesotho army to take care of the SANDF? I mean they've done it before ... :D

What about Kosovo? That worked out well. :o
