Android beats Apple, every time

Alright, lets turn it around. Which apps are there on Android which I can't get on iPhone? And I'm not talking about keyboard replacements and themes and crap. I mean apps. I'm not intersted in Flash. iPhone has internet sharing, wifi hotspot is coming in 4.3 but it was already out on jailbreak.

Sure you can theme it to look like an iPhone, but I'll be able to tell the difference instantly! Just scroll a list, the FPS should drop LOL.

That was your argument not mine...i'm saying you can get the same apps as on app store...

Here one for you all. I'll play a dumb normal human that goes into a cell shop and wants to buy a phone. Here are some of my questions that I will ask the sales person (you lot) who will need to direct my to the best phone based on my questions. Have fun with these, lets see what phone fits the bill.

1) Can I put my music and pictures on this phone?

2) How much can it take and how do I put it on the phone?

3) Can I do that on any computer?

4) Does it have a good camera, I mean, how many megapixels does it have?

5) Will this phone play any video files, like those HD mkv things I download from "my friends" computer?

6) Can use this phone to play music over my car radio?

7) I want to connect this phone to a HD panel or screen, is that possible?

8) Is there a way I can send pictures or music files to my other phone with out cables or data costs?

9) Do you have the same kind of phone you are showing me now but with a real Qwerty keypad?

Come now Roux, you're just cherry picking things that android is good at. No ways anyone wants to do that stuff in real life!

Well, those are things I would image people often ask when they are looking for a phone. Perhaps not all of those by one customer, but I am confident that is what people are looking for these days.
Sure Android can do that, and so can the N8, so its not that special. I'd say any phone not able to perform those basic tasks in this day and age is crap.

No ways the average customer cares whether a phone can play music over a car radio or can be plugged into a TV. Seriously now, those things are not even "nice to have's . . ."

Just out of interest Roux, DLNA enable phones are quite capable of playing movies on your HD tv. Don't discount a phone because it has not HDMI port.

(Though I must admit I don't know if the iPhone has this feature)

Good questions Roux....
Rorzor give a few examples of apple question then?

Does it have white earphones? lol
can you change the battery? oops...

Sure.

HURRRRRR DURRRRRRR?

HURRRRRRRR DUUUUUURRRRR HAS TEH WIFIS?

I WANT IPHONE 4. MUST HAS IPHONE 4. DURRRRRR IZ SHINY?

Wait. What? Roux is most definitely not an Android fanboi!

(Though I do know which phone he is referring to in his post)

As I have said before, if I have to choose between any phone (bar Symbian) VS Android - then it will be Android for me. It is by far the most open and most advanced OS I have seen on mobile devices. Yes, I am a Nokia fanboi but that is because they build phones that does every thing I want and I am aware of a few Android phones than can also do the things I want, just not all at once - but they are getting there very quickly.

And instead of dissing those questions, why don't you take a stab at answering them? They are all questions people ask when they buy mobile devices. I forgot about GPS navigation, do you realize that in South Africa there are very little options for people that want a device that can navigate them in Afrikaans?

Chop.

The very name "Android" implies a half-assed attempt at passing itself off as something else.

Well the name Apple implies a fruit, and that puts it in the same basket as blackberries of which I have read up extensively in the last couple of weeks.... and they suck ugly ballz badly.

What the Apple haters always fail to see is that Apple is an innovator, whereas the rest of these "players" are just copycats.

Android wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for Apple's invention of the iPhone.

Hmmm... Did Google copy an Apple search engine... Don't think so, Google isn't a copycat, they are abundantly innovative, just about all their product possesses innovations over competing offerings... Android is a google product (Google bought android in 2005, the first iPhone came out in 2007)... What do you mean android wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the iPhone... did Android inherit code from Apple? .. in fact it's most manufacturers other than the closed Apple who do make Android handsets... Atleast if android ran on Apple hardware you may have had a point...

Its definitely a personal preference

Guitar Pro & Amplitube for iphone is wicked.
A wide variety of apps to turn an iOS device into a small recording studio.
Games such as InfinityBlade ROCKS!. Epic Games said we could possibly see a version of Gears of War on iPhone in 2012 on iphone...
I'm loving TomTom navigation on iPhone. having a Darth Vader or Ozzy Osbourne voice telling you where to go hehe

facebook contact sync (although i dont use it), wifi personal hotspot.

Programs to use the iOS device as a remote control for not just your computer but as a remote control for some functions in cars, home security systems, home theater components, etc.
Using your iOS device as another monitor for your computer

I think each platform has it's advantages but there's no doubt that the variety of apps on iOS is pretty impressive.

To me personally, a negative thing about android is hardware and software fragmentation (it does exist) and the cellphone manufacturers that don't keep up with providing updates. Some don't even bother at all with updates.

When Samsung released Froyo for Galaxy S after 6 months, it actually BROKE some peoples phones, they lost ALL their data (including memory card data) and some had to get replacement phones.

Just some of my thoughts.
Personally, I have not found one single thing or feature that a miss from other phone or that I can complain about, there's an app for pretty much any feature thats missing from a standard iphone, which kinda provides some advantage and opportunity for developers.
BTW I've never found the need for Flash...

For the record, i'm not fighting and just stating my 2 cents ;) maybe 3 cents hehe

Cheers

They actually copied some source code from Java (apparently). Google is currently being sued by Oracle.
The proof seems pretty solid

Reading the court filings and revised opinions - not so solid. Most of the media outlets are slowly withdrawing those claims. We will see how the case turns out first.

"I also like the fact that there is a drag and drop Android development tool that makes it easy for even non-programmers to create their own applications. While Apple tightly controls what gets into its app store, Android goes out of its way to encourage literally everyone to create applications for their devices."

Which is exactly what makes the app store such a success. Do I really want to be downloading apps created via a drag and drop interface by a non programmer? Wow - I can just imagine the quality apps that will be produced

Seriously, is that your argument for supporting Apples closed development platform and opposing Androids Open one? Right

for a device that you can bring into a development environment to control specialized equipment from anywhere in a building (e.g. service managers at companies) it is a great idea but i don't think it could beat the ease of use and quality you would get from an IPad

you didn't take into consideration the virus attacks on the android OS as well
we have already heard of android and virus attacks and nothing on apple yet.

so it comes down to same argument as windows and apple. if you want a device that will work and still be working in 2-5 years get an apple. but if you want to get a device that will do anything you want and get attacked by hackers and viruses get an android and fork out an extra R300 a year for anti-virus
Lol, how about if you want an overpriced device with a restricted development platform that is run like the Gestapo, get an Apple.
All you are on about is viruses and hackers, are you paranoid ? If you are dumb enough to get a virus that’s you own fault, but don’t come onto these forums and play it like it’s a huge design flaw, goodness.

I would love to reply to all the Apple fanbois that are peeing in their overpriced and overrated panties, but honestly after the 2nd page of replies it just gets really pathetic.

sigh

Edit. bwahah I see Rouxenator has jumped into the fray at the end here, now I WILL HAVE to go and read all these pages, because god knows his insightful opinions are truly mind opening!

fanbois are just too funny :D
