Only on certain specs, the moment Betamax introduced long play to match VHS's time, they lost the quality argument also by the time they got more than 60 mins out of a tape VHS already took the market with its 3 hour recording.

The Apple desgn and hardware is great - for me it is a complete falure because of software constraints!

It failed because more manufacturers were selling the competing system !

BTW more Android smartphones are sold than iPhones ...

Jola, Apple has been at this "Betamax" game since they started, and guess what ... they are alive and doing bloody well. The link I shared ealier shows that they are doing better and better actually. My beef is notvwith Betamax but with your example and what are trying to say.
 
Then we will have to agree to disagree - in the smartphone market Android is drawing further ahead of Apple every day.
 
Pocket protectors also offers better functionality. It's however not cool. But Androidians will not agree.
 
So apple for looks, android for brains lol. Though for me personally, the first iPhone had the nice looks and build quality (the actual metal backing), the ones after it felt plasticy - esp the 3gs. The iPhone 4 feels a little better though. So it's apple for style(only if you like apples style), and Android (with so many manufacturers) for having choice in your style. Every iPhone is the same as every other one and given how many have sold, it's not really an exclusive club anymore, just an over-priced phone in comparison.
 
And with Steve Jobs out the picture I wonder if Apple will go back to it's successes of the early 90s?

They can pull away from here until eternety Jola. Apple has a winning formula that works for them and many millions of us. I don't care if one iPhone sells for every ten Android phones. I know why I prefer Apple products and why I own four of them. As stated earlier, the numbers can be played different ways. The iPad 2 is killing everything else before birth (just ask Samsung).

OS X gives me heartburn. Is iOS organised along the same lines?

Does it need one? And who knows, maybe iOS 5 will provide a solution. Not difficult to implement. Double click of home button can do the trick if so programed/configured.

Oh right, answered my question for me using the age old Apple rhetoric: "But why do you need that?". Clearly iOS is no better than it's big brother.
 
I will not comment on Tablets as Android tablets are not even in the market. (Not counting oversized phones not running tablet OS)

If I look at history Android Phones only came into play 2 years after the 1st iPhone was on sale, so I will reserve judgement. My guess is it would most probably follow the same pattern.

Yeah unfortunately it's the Xoom's pricepoint. I don't think Motorola has targetted the right audience. Though I'll be getting one :D

Not sure what you are talking about? My 32GB Wifi Xoom was USD599, which translated to R5300.
