What about iTunes? Its a legal online Music store. (500 megs a month)

YouTube? This easily chows 2 gigs a month for me.

http://games.saix.net/ - Downloading updates and free game demos and playing online gaming (3 gigs a month)

plus...
e-mail
browsing
windows updates
drivers
online chat
etc

I easily use 20 gigs a month LEGALLY. And thats because I cant afford more!!

Of course - but that 20gb is a far cry from the 150gb people are citing here.

If you were allowed to use as much bandwidth as you liked on the condition that you couldnt download any 'illegal' content how much do you think you'd use each month?

In my family alone (father/mother/sister/nephew)

Easily 50 gigs. Problem is, 80% will be international bandwidth which nobody can afford, hence we will never know the true usage ability of a typical family.

Btw, this will increase every year. 50 gigs now. 150 by next year.

Easily 30GB. No problem.

I am not sure why there is this conception that that is a lot of bandwidth. That is exactly what the internet is there for. It is no longer a place of text-only and email checking. Otherwise, what is the point of it.

Say now, I found a place to download a box set of The Simpsons, legally, in HD format for displaying on my plasma screen at home to my kids. That is going to run into the hundreds of GBs. Whilst this is not likely here in SA due to the pathetic speeds of our broadband, it certainly is possible elsewhere.

Would you call me an abuser and unreasonable then?

Show me one thing on Newshost that's legal? And it doesn't matter what you call it, it's still illegal.

It's something totally different if you use your bandwidth on other stuff (youtube, gaming, etc.) There's no need to download every single movie, tv episode & game that gets released every month. Those are normally the people who downloads it to sell it again to the public.

Ah, I "might" download from Newshost and I do not sell it. However this topic is not about wether the stuff downloaded is legal or not its about saying that in South Africa using large amounts of bandwith is abuse for the rest of us!

I am saying that if Telkom grew up then we wouldn't have to worry about usuage etc!
 
why doesnt telkom just capp local after 10gb on 1gb accounts and 30gb on 3gb accounts?

Wouldnt this help them having less angry clients?

Also would help against abuse and apparent bandwidth problems the country is having...
