On a serious note - I heard at the launch you could now create a hotspot. I've downloaded 5.1 and see nothing under settings > wireless ?

On your iPhone? You have been able to create a hotspot for a long time now. Its under Settings (Main menu). Just tap Personal Hotspot just below W-iFi.

But did you not read some reviews if the iPad over the last two years before you bought one? The limitations you mention are all very well known and mentioned in most major reviews.

In fact, go to my initial post here on MyBB about it and you'd be surprised how many people mentioned that had no idea. They even did a MyBB article on it shortly afterwards and again, the comments were no idea.

There are normally difference in how the software works based on hardware.
In this case, I imagine the iPad 2 doesn't have a bi-directional antenna. Or Apple are being crap

Seriously, the Samsung 40" LN40D630? What a lame screen. Practically the same form factor as the first generation of 40" screens, with little tweaks here and there. How about something truly innovative??? How about a sub $50 lcd to totally overthrow the TV market (mostly) and at the same time be innovative in another market segment. The same old boring upgrades and predictable tweaks will soon fall out of favour. I know Samsung will always have their loyal customer base, but surely a big corporate like this should be looking into growth in other markets to continue growing their business.

It also seems like Samsung is one company that doesn't give a flying f*** about less fortunate people, and what their needs are. Tell me, why do we keep supporting Samsung?

It's happens to any product and company out there... it's the same thing with a few minor tweaks here and there.
a little more effective/larger/smaller/sleeker/faster/stronger......

If your printer/car/camera breaks, you don't need something completely different - you just need a new printer/car/camera.
Apple don't need to change the iPad in EVERY way and form, they just need to keep it updated with the times and new technology out there.

If the iPad doesn't have what you want, why not just, you know, buy something else?


you are right about apple not caring about less fortunate people though.... but neither do any other company out there.
Doctors, Churches and charities don't really care either - it's about money. the world runs on money not about caring for other people and their needs (unfortunately)

In the last few months I've listed a number of issues, like lack of lack of Flash, lack of hotspot, 3G limit, no SMS, weak app store, shoddy camera, download issues and numerous others.

Assume you're referring to the iPad. I don't own one, so entertain my answers if you will:
1. Flash - sorry to hit the stereotype, but I really don't care (that much) about flash. Flash is dead. HTML5 is here. That said, Safari mobile SUCKS. I hate it. I use Mercury instead.
2. Hotspot - I'm currently using my iPhone as a hotspot. Choice of Bluetooth, Wifi or USB. iPad doesn't have this?
3. No SMS - yeah, weak. Is this a feature on all/most other tablets?
4. Weak app store - The apple app store? Are you for real? The app store RULEZORS imho. Sucks if you don't have a US account though.
5. Shoddy camera - the camera on my iPhone 4S is the biznits. I still take my digital camera with REAL optical zoom along when I'm out to take some serious photos. But then what smartphone or tablet can seriously compete with a real camera?
6. Download issues - With mercury browser you can download to your dropbox storage. The cellular download limit (50MB now?) does suck. Jailbreak.

Again - compare product for product. Look at the initial playbook's vast array of shortcomings. Compare Apples to apples.

Obviously yes. I like some apple products. I live with their shortcomings and I'm quick to tell others interested in these products about flaws/shortcomings. I don't defend them. Not a fanboi.

Yeah, but that is normally applied to service providers that give uncapped internet (Like AT&T) to prevent people from tethering with their computer and going crazy. In SA, you should just see the menu option

4 - weak if you don't lie about your real location - however US isn't the most convenient option should you select this. I had to lie and elected Kenya which is inbetween the two

5 - Whether or not I have and use a real camera, it would decent to have something beyond 0.7MP. Remember, it's not only the photos - but the apps that make use of the camera (Google Goggles, for one) are limited due to the resolution and quality

The restriction on the App store in SA isn't totally Apple's fault and it certainly isn't due to a poor device. TIA. MS mobile has similar restrictions AFAIK. Droid doesn't? Hmmm.

So point for point suggest a superior device.

Really? You have all the movies and tv shows on the SA Android Market Place that the USA Android Market Place??? If that is the case, I will eat my hat. App Store differences in regions is a content provider issue. Not Apple, Google or Amazon's issue.

Flash - This was very widely publicized. You can easily understand Apple's reasons, even if you don't agree with them.

Yeah, I could imagine the iPad camera being not good enough for some people. Although I have never used it for anything other than Photobooth and Facetime. But I imagine it could be very annoying for other uses.

The Personal Hotspot issue. If the antenna is capable of transmitting a wifi signal as well as recieve, them they should include the functionality. That is poor form from them if that is the cse.

The SMS thing I have explained. Apple differentiate the iPad as a device category on it's own, and not a phone. So even though it has a sim-card in it, it has no concept of a phone number with which to receive SMS's. That is a descision Apple made. And I understand why they did it, even though I might disagree with it.
It is exactly the same as a 3G router. It has a sim card, but doesn't have the concept of a phone numeber
