Apple lambastes fragmented Android and outdated Samsung

Trolling? You've been on here for this long and you can't tell the difference between someone who disagrees with you and a troll, really?

Yes, we disagree, but let us not get into anything. I don't wish to argue with anyone. You haven't been too bad this time around. It's the other guy that bothers me.

Check xda. There are tons of JB ROMs floating around. I'm running Omega v20.

I would LOVE to have a linux on my phone (not the flaky rom from Canonical) more like have a full linux machine packed into a phone. oh the bliss of opening a shell while in a meeting to fix something instead of having to carry this damn notebook around.

For now I will have to go on the hunt for a ROM that has a TRON feel as an interim. Seen a few screenshots but nothing impressive so far.

I'll just stick this in here... :p

No, no, no.... hold on a second now. You're the one who posts 'dont be an iDiot' threads and I'M the troll?

I'm talking about the smartphone market, android has really put a dent in Apples momentum.Sure Apple is still doing well but if there were no android they would probably be doing a whole lot better.

Thankyou capn obvious. And if there was no BMW or Audi or Mercedes, VW would be doing a lot better as well.

If you don't think fragmentation is an issue for any developer who wants to deploy to Android I can only assume they you don't know anything about development.

I do know that andoid on more devices means more development (if it continues on the linux legacy). Now they could keep it at one crappy OS for a limited range of phones and have less development, but I dont think thats a real answer.

Fragmentation is a limited issue. Like Ubuntu is fragmented from Lubuntu. So some stuff that works out the box on Ubuntu wont work out the box on Lubuntu, yet both versions have thriving development communities. Fragmentation leads to more diversity, more options.

It is not a major issue however as most Android devices will not be the target for most app developers. Google's biggest problem with Android is the carriers.
Its certainly is not a major issues because I got devices running from Gingerbread to Jellybean and every single one of my apps works across all of them. Im sure there are some conflicts (as with any thriving and large ecosystem), but in my day to day use I have never come across them.

Ok. What about what I said was trolling. I specifically pointed out how fragmentation hurts developers. I additionally explained what API's were, and gave examples of the good new API's you don't get on older versions. Now explain how that is trolling?

Ubuntu and FirefoxOS look like they are going to give us the first real FOSS mobile OS. I'm not sure which one it will be though. FirefoxOS looks like it has traction with manufacturers, so I am leaning that way

Pointing it out to Jstrike who is implying android is not a threat to Apple but yeah you're right it is that obvious don't know why JStrike can't wrap his head around that then.

Oh well trolling has gone so bad in these APPLE/ANDROID threads that its hard to draw the line between a genuine post and a troll.

Nope. The smartphone market was dominated by Symbian

With more devices and more options there is more development.

This hurts development in the same way that the end of cobol hurt development, or how window 3.1 apps not running on windows 95 hurt development. Oh wait... none of this did. Development thrived as it had more options!

Android would be a threat if Apple cared about marketshare, rather than just the high end. However, Apple has never cared about that. They enjoy dominating the high end, and the profits that brings them. And they have a very long history of that.

You could look at that as a bad thing if you so wish (They are motivated by profit rather than reach)

Just look at the quality of apps on android vs iOS. It is directly related to the fragmentation.
I am not saying development doesn't happen on Android. It does. And I am not saying it is so different to supporting Windows versions. What I am saying is that it does make devs life harder.
iOS has fragmentation too, it is just far, far less than in android. Which is why most major apps come to iOS first, and why so many apps on Android are not as good as they should be.
