Nothing

But when spending R17000 i would like to get the latest and greatest.

Spending R17000 on a laptop is not comething i do everyday, and so would like to maximise the purchase. Its not that long to wait when you consider i should have the machine for 3 years.

I think you understand my thinking.

Understand yes, agree - heck no. The current design is tried and tested - when I spend that much I want something that I know is going to perform and perform well.

What's going to keep the machine useful for three years is what is under the hood.

lol, the way you guys are caring on, you might just get it right to convince me.

Went to Sagemore Apple store yesterday. First time playing with an iPhone.

I have to say it lives up to all expectations. The thing is great. Responsive, clear, fun, etc.
I got to play with it for a while... browsing different webpages, searching google maps, looking at email, watching video, listening to songs and pretending to dial phone numbers (not connected to AT&T network on demo versions). I have to say if I move back to the states, I will get an iPhone straight away. It is like having a macbook in your pocket.

The only thing I would like to see for it right now is the ability to have third party apps on it (for geocaching) and maybe a bluetooth GPS receiver add on. Oh, and a spare battery to plug in if needs be.

Otherwise, the iPhone (and the iPod Touch) is one H#11 of a machine in your pocket. Wish I could bring one back to SA. :(

I haven't had a chance to play with one yet, I'll make sure to go to an Apple store and play with one while I'm in New York next month - but I am currently looking at their handout of the available contract plans for the iPhone and I must say it highlights how much we are getting ripped off here.

$60 a month - 450 minutes - 200 sms's - unlimited data - 5000 night & weekend minutes - rollover minutes & unlimited mobile to mobile.

Not too shabby.

And that's not even such a great plan. For less than that you can get 600 min and 1000 texts *with* a phone.

Stop that guys. You all know Telkom doesn't want you comparing apples with apples and blueberries with blueberries ( I mean Blackberries!). ;)

* Had blueberry lemonade at a street/block party last night. Tasty stuff in the blueberry capital of the world! :)

Damn - now I'm going to have to drag my lazy butt down to woolies and get some blueberries. :o

BTW - which blueberry capitol of the world?

Hammonton?

Geez, the Touch prices have started surfacing.

Digicape has them on preorder at R4455 for the 16GB model and R3465 for the 8GB model. I was hoping for quite a bit less than that. I would've paid up to R4000 for the 16GB one...

Where else! ;)

BTW - I've had my eye out for an IROC for you. Nothing yet though. :D

zastore has the local pricing for the new iPod range. No product red models and the pricing is ludicrous especially for the touch

Wow - you werent kidding were you. Recently it has seemed like the UK pricing was the same or slightly worse that locally but that's flip flopped now.

I guess Core is going to milk this one hard.

Core are scum. How I wish we had an official Apple presence here.

I have to think core's strategy is to price things high enough that the consumer base is kept below a level that would attract an interest from Apple.
