Are Openweb throttling capped accounts?

I recently have cancelled my OW account. Good riddance.

Please recommend me a decent and honest ISP. I'm looking for a cheap uncapped 2Mb account that I can use to download ungodly loads of stuff at night-time aaaaand it should be running at full speed during daytime even if P2P is shaped or not.

So, i was with OW for many years and cancelled recently, best feeling ever.........i went to the R 99 www.connection.co.za.

Here is the catch........for R 99 my torrents and NNTP work from around 10pm to 7am. All my online games work.. Dota 2, starcraft etc.....no shaping or throttling i can pickup on for gaming.

not great for downloading so much but i get what i pay for, i dont get lied to, it is what it is and well for 99 bucks, it does it's job MUCH better than openweb's super duper gold cr@p that is shared between 40 people.

Weekends it's pretty good as well, download quite a bit. I also run my vpn during the day for work and i can use lync voice across it without loss of quality.

connection.co.za 2mb uncapped @ R99.

Don't be put off by the "too good to be true" price, it's only a special launch price but you get to keep that pricing.

Keep your downloads to 23:00-6:00 7 days a week and you should be good.

No 30 days either.
 
My issue is WTF is Connection?
The pricing is too good to be true.

Given my horrible experiences with OW, I'm reluctant to check this out :( I'm thinking about going back to MWEB. I never had any issues when I was over there. I was one of those long-time MWEB clients (3 years) who jumped into the surrounding azure seas when the great decorated ferry was sinking unexpectedly because there were no lifeboats when SEACOM engine went busted.

Very similar to Plugg accounts, just the stars drop a bit faster.

It's good, I've used it, and others will back me up.

No catch, no 30 day, you choose your username online, no account sharing unless you want to as it allows 2 concurrent connections, and works with the plugg news server.

What do you have to loose?

Trust me when I say that ONLY OW is kuk when it comes to IS accounts. The R99 price is for first 1000 subscribers so will eventually go up, but you keep the special price as long as you keep your account.

I've used AH (pre-MTN), then Plugg, then connection with no issues with accounts sharing/swopping or whatever.

Keep downloads in the 23:00-6:00 window 7 days a week (as this doesn't affect the star rating (which you can monitor online)), and you will be fine.

I ran a speedtest and he was running at full speed again. So I unpaused his SABNZBD and let an nntp download shoot off quick. Immediately the nntp connection dropped to 50Kb/s. So I ran a speedtest again, and here is the result:

Throttled again down to 512Kbps.

So I took the account and plugged it in to my line at my house again, to rule out any network and line errors on his end, and I got the same result:

So clearly the nntp download chucked this account into a shaping pool, which as we know continues for at least an hour after the download is stopped/complete. Hence why he got full line speed back, and then was promptly shaped again the moment the nntp download started.

So from where I stand, this is clear evidence of a capped account being throttled (not shaped) as all protocols are being rate limited, not just downloads. The entire account is rate-limited down to around 512Kbps...

BTW the term throttling does not exist in I.T, it all falls under shaping. You can confirm with the RFC's if you dont believe me. If you want the specific RFC let me know and I can provide it.

In the nomenclature of the industry it exists for the purposes of distinctly identifying the nature of the account limitations being applied. Can PM the RFC though please...

Yeh let me get my tinfoil hat .... Telkom does not limit any traffic as they will be contravening local and international ICT laws. Do you have any proof of this claims or heard it at school/uni/bar ..... cause its total bulls.
