Are Openweb throttling capped accounts?

I stream a lot of online video and download large game updates. My usage is over 100Gb per 1Mbps per month. I do not however, see myself as an abuser. The South African widely accepted mentality of low internet bandwidth caps and shaping/throttling is sad.

Well dude, with respect, then you must look elsewhere. It is defined, and you have enough info to make your decision. In contrast, there is only one ISP in my experience that allows me to stream perfectly, any time, day or night. If that means people with usage of over 100GB on 1Mbps, 200GB on 2Mbps, 400GB on 4Mbps, 950GB on 10Mbps, have to look elsewhere, then it only helps me out.

If everyone did it, my experience wouldn't be what it is. The 99% of those deemed to have acceptable usage, are more important than the 1% deemed abusers. It's sound logic, you cannot deny.

It wasn't sold to us as "defined". Nowhere in my contract did it state I would be throttled if I exceeded some magic number on an UNCAPPED account. In fact, MWEB promised to never throttle. I don't believe that 1% made up figure either. Just wait until you become their next target for, heaven forbid, actually using the internet.

No, it was not defined in the beginning, only a few months after. But we have the facts now and since then. I also left in the beginning because of the 'magic number'.

I won't become a target, my usage falls way below what I'm allowed.

I assure you that those vocal on this forum make up around 1% of total subscribers, if not less. MWEB are massive. They have their own network, too.

Much much less. The very small amount of people on this forum who use(d) MWEB wouldn't even make up 1% of their subscribers. But for every informed forumite on here, there are plenty more who just want to download, who don't know any better. Working in IT retail, I interface with this crowd on a daily basis. Who don't know about this fantastic website.

At the end of the day, home uncapped leaves a lot to be desired. OW used to give me a good deal. Their service has become sub standard.

Best thread ever... I particularly enjoyed the 3 pages of debating who was at fault, and then another 2 pages of whether throttling is a word.

Sarcasm aside... its crazy that a user must diagnose his own issues to get resolution, even if resolution is to decide to cancel the account... what is this world coming to?

I guess its a sign that i should look for a new ISP too. The heavy downloading overnight is ok on OW, but the lack of any internet during office hours is killing me...

I have to disagree with you. My home uncapped account outperforms others' business accounts, which I too have tried.

and the last bit about abusers :D

in catching up with all this ow nonsense, this thread has been comedy gold amongst the more serious issues.

I recently have cancelled my OW account. Good riddance.

Please recommend me a decent and honest ISP. I'm looking for a cheap uncapped 2Mb account that I can use to download ungodly loads of stuff at night-time aaaaand it should be running at full speed during daytime even if P2P is shaped or not.

Just fork out R499 for a 2mbps business line (Axxess) and be done with all the shaping, throttling ,p2p crap.Just pure 2mbps speed all day and all night long :D

Funny I should come across this thread as today I am experiencing issues.

Speed test shows full line speed @ 3.5mbps yet I download around +-1mbps, I can barely watch YouTube vids at 480p. Yet they assure me their capped accounts are NOT shaped/throttled.

I have also logged a fault with technical to see why the topup failed.

Wish these guys were still around so I could get clarity on this statement. I thought you were technical support?! :wtf:

You guys claim to purchase "raw ipc" (lol) so you surely can't be referring to Internet Solutions here. Or was this a Freudian slip?

I'm also experiencing issues with OpenWeb Throttling my account, and I'm paying for GOLD UNCAPPED.
I send them emails just about every week day after 5pm, and they only stop throttling my account in the late evening.
I'm so frustrated, I'm actually getting tired of sending them emails.
