Article: Outrage after FW de Klerk CNN interview

Exactly, unfortunately we have similar loons around locally.

In regard to the interview, I wish there was a transcript I can't imagine FW putting his foot in it like that.

I'm not convinced he did put his foot in it. It sounds to me as if he's saying separatism is morally defensible in theory but that it's implementation in SA was unjust towards blacks. He's not justifying the subjugation of black people.

Exactly, everything was taken so out of context that it makes him look like a rabid racist when everything he said makes sense and is true. Everyone who tweeted is a whiny sensitive prick

That is exactly what he was saying. People need to watch that interview with an unbiased, objective mind. He says nothing wrong at all.

It does not matter what he says.
He will always be seen as a white repressive apartheid lackey.
After all....ALL WHITES ARE RACIST no matter how many times they apologize and try and make amends in any form or manor.

Africa is for Africans.

Traditional leaders are demanding that they be allowed to circumvent the constitution to allow them to be feudal lords over their communities. Sounds very much like the apartheid-era Bantustans, but because the traditional leaders ask for it it's okay... yet when FW says he's fine with it, he's a racist.

Cry the beloved country where only white people can be racist.

It is kind of bothersome that he felt the idea of black people living seperately from white people wasn't a bad idea at all.

Nobody else feel that way? I mean guys you can defend him all you like, but the concept is similar to if aliens landed here with advanced weapons and basically shoved us on the worst spots on the planet to live on while they live in the best and most comfortable spots ever and we end up suffering even though it's our planet. Now this in itself is fine, come here boot us into the kuk parts of our planet etc. but then don't stand there and make claims about it being a just and fair system ... don't even pretend for one second that it "seemed" like a good idea and that you had no idea it would infringe on people's rights as human beings... at least be honest with yourself about what your doing.

Odd that Redi thought that was funny when Nick Rabinowitz said it

What he is saying is that people had their homelands. Everyone wants their own language, their own flag, their own history, and now we're kind of all mish mashed together which seems to be working out for us, but if they had wanted their independence, they had it.

had they been given equal opportunities i'm sure we'd all still have our own homelands, if people didn't treat black people like dumb baboons and undepray them then they wouldn't have struggled to survive. many people took advantage of black people during apartheid. you can't force people away from where the money is. if the money was in the middle of soweto you would have seen white people moving there.

it is nice to have a homeland, something that makes your land unique. we have changed as a country and i am proud of it, but i get what he was trying to say

Now why would aliens want to shove us into the kuk parts of this world?

He fully admits that white people were selfish with land. Seriously, I don't see where he's trying to justify the apartheid system that existed in reality. He's saying it could have been a just and fair system but they cocked it up.

Personally, I would have emigrated the first chance I got.

That was a religious speration and both parties agreed, it was best for the country.

You suggesting a black and white SA? Thats just as racist as a bench for white people only.

I am not suggesting anything. Just elaborating on FW's statement.

The one thing I like about FW is , he tells it like it is (i.e. exactly how he feels, so you know exactly where you stand with him).

It is clear he has great respect for madiba and still believe in this country's young democracy. There were things he said I dont agree with like: "madiba was justly tried, but was in prison for too long...20 years would have been ok, but 30 years was too long"...REALLY???
How about "the system left him no choice but to explore ways to overthrow the government" and that "he should not have been in prison in the first place"

But even though I dont agree with some stuff he says, doesnt mean I dont respect the man - he after all was one of the engineers of our new democracy and these twits (..ers) should get back in their box

Shhhh, let them have that, then we can claim the presidency for white people since that's traditionally our form of leadership, no ? ;)

They wanted their own homelands, they got their own homelands, then the leaders in those homelands didn't want to share the spoils and suddenly the game changed and they demanded all the toys not just the ones they chose for themselves, typical 5 grader mentality and the anc still haven't grown out of that phase and never will.

He responded: "There are three reasons it failed. It failed because the whites wanted to keep too much land for themselves. It failed because we (whites and blacks) became economically integrated, and it failed because the majority of blacks said that is not how we want our rights."

The last reason is the real reason why apartheid failed.

and that is where the racism came from

Under-currents of racist ideology manifested in do many of these posts... I cannot believe that so many of these types are congregating on a (mostly) based forum! have they been banned from news24?
