Axxess Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

Damn, so I still have to pay R496 for a sub 384 service on my 4mb line? Somebody from axxess better explain what they plan to do about this mess.

I'm with you on this one.
Slow Internet like this will be torture over the next month!
I know Axxess have the capacity!! I used up my last 300mb on Axxess-semi last night and it was flying.

"Heavily shaped"... you bastards... I didn't see that when I signed up....

This is just really bad though.

oh no! torrents @ less than 5Kb/s.... I'm back to the 64K ISDN stone age again!

Like I have said before Axxess and co were caught with their pants down and launched a product as a knee jerk to MWEB's brilliant move. Unfortunately if you have not paid for the extra capacity you are forced to throttle everyone to give away uncapped. This is what they are doing now. My guess is they are in a boardroom somewhere either planning on shutting down or negociating the purchase of extra capacity form their bandwidth suppliers. Not even Vernon can save them from this cluster %$#@.
I really hope they pull something out the bag because time is running out. People will be cancelling services at months end. I for one will take Mweb up, not because they are any better than the rest, just because they did it first and I think I can spare the extra few bucks.
Next month is a long way away in internet terms and I hope axxess have their act together by then :erm:

Well I for sure am not experiencing 4mg speeds, but they have not been too bad. I downloaded the Ubuntu Beta just to test the line and I averaged about 150 K/sec

There apear to be issues with the IS network this morning and as for pinging MyBB, RPM has already posted that the IDC the server is hosted at is having problems.

That means there is hope that the performance of these uncapped offers will improve as problems are addressed, right?

This is a thread posted by someone on the uncapped shaped account @ 4Meg with test results at different periods -> http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?223680-Axxess-uncapped-shaped-4096-results

His results are pretty much what I would expect. Heavy shaping in the day with non-browser\email traffic and downloads picking up at night. The account is permanently shaped and hence that is its natural defense against abuse. It's not unshaped at night but appears to perform better because the avg packets going accross the network are for downloads and p2p and those will be processed on a first come, first served basis where daytime traffic has by nature more traffic generated via browsing etc. Thats why weekends would seem almost unshaped as well because the ratio of browser traffic to download traffic is pretty much even.

lol, if you knew how long it took to load that thread you'd be a bit more sympathetic.....

The reason I asked is my performance sucks no matter what time I log on. 15KB/s maximum download at night? From Steam? Surely not.

At 8:30am this morning my girlfriend called me from home because Gmail took forever to load (my Axxess account was still active) and I had to walk her through changing credentials back to my Afrihost 5GB account. Even if it is fair to shape and throttle the way they do, surely this kind of performance is still unacceptable? Who on earth would want something like that, or consider it useful?

Hence the hope that things might improve as IS sorts their network out.

hmmm I'm still getting about 10-20kbps on P2P and browsing seems to take ages.

Well I got a 4meg line.
Haven't cancelled my Telkom 5GB account. So still on Do3.

But yesterday I paid for my 4meg Axxess uncapped shaped account at R496.
Will see how it goes tomorrow.
If it sux bum like all you guys are saying then I will cancel before the 25 of April.

Then either move to MWeb or get an Axxess Express and use that 1 month on and 1 month off.
I can't afford R1000 pm just for ISP.

Getting better.
Line 384 kbps.

Had pretty much given up on this acc today, and used a capped acc. Will experiment tonight with a few
things.

is there like a genuine problem witht he IS network at the moment? - called Axxess again and they said IS is in some sort of *** atm. Whats up?

did they say anything else, like is this supposed to be normal service?

You guys must understand the share ratio on the accounts are 100:1 with means that if the have an 100mb pipe then 100 people share that pipe all at the same time that's why its so cheap where the other accounts share ratio are more to 20:1

Then they should be advertising the 4096 as being only slightly better than 512, cos thats the type of performance i'm getting, at best.

This is ridiculous downloading from Microsoft at 5kbps, that is only a bit faster than dial up

what you pay for is what u get, if you pay R400 pm then you take what u get if you Pay R2700 pm then you don't take what u get then you want your full line speed. go cheap get crappy results.
