Battlefield 3 tips for noobs

1. Always drive off in a jeep and/or tank and never let any of your teammates get in with you. (they increase the chance of you dieing)
2. Never capture the command points, it's a waste of time, always run in and kill as many people as you can.
3. If someone unfortunately does get in the heli with you, go as far up into the sky as you possibly can and then press your forward arrow key down until you go straight into the ground and kill yourself and more importantly your teammate.
4. Never spot enemy troops or vehicles doing so will only contribute to killing your teammates.
5. For everything else: This may help you. :)

Thanks for the thread, there's good stuff here.
I'm an old geezer whose first shooter was Wolfenstein 3D. BF3 is my first fps in many years and I'm getting owned by the young rapscallions :) Broke my mouse yesterday in frustration after having been killed for the 100th time within 2s of spawning.

I am still a noob in many regards, but when you can use the AA to clear the skies you'll be surprised how much of difference it makes when there not Heli's and jets beating down on your team mates. although i had to laugh last night, when the other team was complaing about being killed by the AA.

I've seen that complaint as well, makes me rofl real bad when they moan about being taken out by AA ....... "You so noob using AA near your spawn" ..... try stop spawn raping then ;)

Hey

Is there a particular area of the game u not having a good time with? A particular game type? Is it just that your overall points arnt good, or are u struggling to kill people/getting killed alot?

During the week I didn`t do too bad, had a decent kill to death ratio, but on friday night I had a difficult time in every game... urban as well as open.

Watched a youtube video about the game where the guy tells you to press "q" spot the enemies, and use grenades to destroy barriers, which are actually vital tips. Just wondered what else I didn`t know about.
The game probably tells you these stuff in the campaign... but who plays the campaign? That`s why I started this thread.
Thanks for the great responses so far!.

Support guys please drop your ammo, just spam it for goodness sake. I play assault and when I run out of bullets I run around looking for a ammo kit.

Haha I am a regular in the jet and have moaned a couple times.

AA in BF3 is a joke, 90% of the time you are in the sky someone is locked on to you and of course they have disabled reverse cam so you can't see what it is. Also the base AA can reach just short of the other base so the entire "battlefield" is in range, fly anywhere near a flag and you are jsut about guaranteed to be locked on. Its silly and is the reason you never see the guy in the jet getting a decent score.

That said you learn ways to avoid the AA but still... its crap.

I have yet to see that .... I sit for ages with Stingers locking onto guys and they are not getting shot down by AA. Accordingly, they will then blow everything up in the enemy base constantly, so if you spawn, sorry, you and your 2 tanks get blown up as you spawn.

Well if there wasn't any AA the people in helicopters and jets would completely dominate.

I like the fact jest and choppers can die quick....its about balance, however I seen to battle killing jets, lol

If a flag is about to be taken by armour, and you are not an engineer, dont bother trying to fight. Call for backup, hide and wait. Most times, especially on the bigger maps the armour will drive off as soon as the flag is captured. And then, since you're still alive, you will simply recapture. Bonus points for hiding within range of the flag, meaning the armour has to stay put for a long time (ie he cant be somewhere more useful on the map)

Anyone tweaking their graphical settings in BF3 so that they can see the enemy more clearly? If so, please share.

Ja but why would you want that? It will make the game look worse. I would rather have it look great and then miss the occasional enemy hiding away. Stats and score mean little to me. I like having a good round, and they come along sometimes, however I just want to go out have fun, and pretend I'm there :)

When you playing maps where you must 'hold' points (flags etc) - guys, work as a team, don't all rush off in different directions - yes, kills count but you get more points defending flags and holding, reviving, healing etc.

I had a game the other night where we were losing hopelessly! It was a joke, I almost just quit the game.
But I told everyone to come together, hold a point / line and move from there in teams.
I have no idea why they started to listen but we turned that game around so fast - people changed from being snipers to assault etc.
Pointless being a damn sniper on the Metro MAP!!

Medics, engineers (for ammo) are so needed.

As an avid Sniper, I have to disagree :p

Given, the biggest majority of snipers just camp and get the odd kills here and there.

However:

. Snipers have the best vantage points in the whole game and they can spot (Q) enemies from across the map
This helps with Mortar strikes, assault guys on the ground with enemies approaching, engineers to nuke/plant mines.
. Snipers are needed to kill enemy snipers. One good sniper can dictate a game purely by killing strategically.
I have held and defended 2 flags in conquest myself by sniping the enemies trying to claim it.

I personally move and claim objectives while sniping. (Ask Killa, we where on a map yesterday where 90% of our squad was in recon kit and all where camping. I was actually with the other 10% claiming objectives in Rush)

It's not easy being a sniper. ALL enemies will gun for you the moment you're spotted, so spare a little thought to us snipers who are always crapped out and called names only by association of the class and not the player :(

I wish more people would follow this.

If your squad is under attack, don't all 4 of you rush in and die. One should stay as a spawn point for the others. Rotate your spawn duty and so on. There is nothing harder than fighting 4 guys who keep spawning at the same location gunning at you for a whole round.
