Best Decent Android TV Box

When I eventually replace my TV set later on this year - I'm considering either a TCL or Toshiba 55" 4K UHD model - I am also going to be replacing my Netogy Nova 10 with the Mediabox Rocket Android Streaming Box that I posted earlier in this thread - and bypassing the built-in 'Smart TV' OS & apps software completely... 😛

All devices with only 2GB RAM, which is all of these cheap boxes, should be banned. All forms of Android, including Google and Android TV needs a min. of 4GB ram to function.

If you just going to stream YTS quality movies then anything will be fine.

Instead of a media box why not get a SFF PC with Windows and use a BT keyboard and mouse?

Or are those only limited to 1080p due to piracy prevention?

Yes, Because if the best is what one is looking for the answer is always Apple.
Maybe he needs more advanced features or higher resolution audio or something.

depends on the chip used - the newer ones will play ultraHD but most of the cheap older ones will need a good graphics card to play ultra HD and a capable one cant fit easily in a SFF PC

i used to use my microserver to play up to HD videos but the Low profile cards you have to use with very low TDPs restrict the graphics cards you can add - if i was to get a 4k capable card with a low profile bracket it will :

1) cost almost twice what i paid for the actual microserver + the 16GB ECC ram that i currently have in it
2) i don't know if it will work without continually overheating and causing reboots and it will need more power than the microservers 150w PSU can provide

and if you build a custom SFF HTPC with either a capable CPU with onboard GPU and board plus ram and PSU or alternatively an adequate CPU with a good graphics card and you will spend around 8 to 10 times more than just buying the media box

But how do you live with all that in-your-face advertising?

Bullshit. We have a mix of Ematic / Mi players in the house and they all work flawless with Netflix/Plex/Youtube.

I've been using my Samsung TV's built in media player for years and I only died once. But I got better.

I have to ask you - how hard has the Apple marketing hit you guys?

I know they use psycological marketing - but trying to inject yourself into every thread while chanting Apple is the best & ignoring everything is really just bizarre. I feel you've been whacked hard

No they slow. Stop making excuses. They are functional, but they need more ram.

So stop with it then. Why do you seek so much attention?

I'm typically replying to the OP.

Or, I'm saying things like 'users have different needs'

Neither are incorrect ?

I do it facinating to watch these types of people though. Love it when @Jean Claude Vaaldamme joins a technology chat actually

You not much different. I don't say don't post. I enjoy you, backstreetboy and Kambrooks posts. But you can't point fingers though.... ;)
