Reading through some posts it seems that quite a few guys are no longer BRM rib fans.
I'm in the same camp, but of late I just buy takeaway ribs when I have the craving.
So which is your favourite? I want to braai some good ribs this weekend and I'm looking for the perfect replacement.

BRM if you're not on a tight budget, currently R199/kg at Checkers (You can find cheaper elsewhere for R169/kg)

I found these a few days ago at Food Lovers and they are R99/kg

Damn good, I will buy them again

Nice to hear. Was going to head out for these today.
Give it a try, I've had way worse before
These were tasty and soft and juicy. Not tough at all
Nice marinade that is a little bit less sweet than BRM.
And after taking the ribs out of the packet I would guess there was about 100 to 150ml sauce remaining in the packet
With BRM there is almost half a litre remaining and you cannot even use all of it so it just gets tossed away

Verdict: For 99 bux I was very impressed

Will give it a try.

R200 p/kg is just too much for us.

On a budget we get the Checkers ribs from Vergellegen Plein Checkers for under R100 p/kg. It's OK.

I'm not a fan of so called rib burgers. If it were deboned ribs it may have been different, but sadly it's just a rib shaped patty.

I did try out Food Lovers ribs yesterday. Very tasty, but the rack I had wasn't the best quality. Will see if it's different next time since it's mostly luck of the draw when it comes to a lot of fat and cartilage in a cut. Had this with BRM too.

They're tasty and it was two for the price of one so I bought a lot.

It's the same marinade as the normal ribs so I save the excess for marinading chicken breasts.

I've tried Food Lovers ribs in the past but was less than impressed. Same with Spar's and Checkers. If we have ribs then we splurge.

Makes me wonder if the rack I had is the quality they sell. Hopefully not.

BRM ribs have been too sweet of late. Or maybe I just had too many throughout these last few years that I no longer appreciate them. Will know soon after I tried and tested the other brands.

Lastly the price of pre cooked ribs in general. BRM may be expensive, but others are just as close in price when not on special. For around R30 more I can get a kg of killer ribs with chips and onion rings from a restaurant nearby.

Went to the Spur, whole family ordered ribs...so 2 mins in, terrible smell like someone trod in dogshit, really horrific.
Anyway, smell ribs, turn over, Jesus wept@#$& Green slime underneath.

Call manager over, she has a good smell, and says...yes definitely a bit funky, but don't worry won't charge you.

Turns out they had run out of marinade and had used the bottles that they had for display as backup...but they had been there in the sun and on counters etc for months.

Don't eat ribs anymore.

Agree with you there that BRM marinade has become pretty sweet lately, and too much marinade, I can't use it all, if I did I would kill the coals
Give the Food Lovers one a try at R99/kg, it is pretty damn good and not as sweet.

But, BRM still wins my heart, just so pricey though

There's an eskort factory shop in Boksburg. Best I've found. Especially the ones in Mexican Marinade.
