Planescape
Dragon Age
Arcanum
Neverwinter Nights 1 (2 was, in my opinion, mediocre)
Mass Effect series
Baldur's Gate 2
Deus Ex 1 & 2
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Gothic series
Knights of the Old Republic series
The Witcher
Risen
Fallout 1 & 2
The Temple of Elemental Evil
Pool of Radiance
Not necessarily all in that order.
Having just played through ME2 for the 3rd time, it's the best RPG that I've ever played. It's about as close as you can get to playing an epic movie where you're control the plot. The fact that the choices that you make in the first game can affect what happens in the third game is awesome.
I'm a big fan of action RPGs though. Turn-based combat isn't my style.
Lol, you mean how engrossed you get by the game? well i can tell the story of neverwinter nights 1 and mass effect 1 and 2, with all the possible outcomes, whereas with overlord i barely remember the stories
Neva played any of the above crap![]()
No Betrayal at Krondor? Then this thread = fail
Oblivion (first real open world rpg, story quite nice and different directions you could take character)
Nothing beats Diablo 2 Hardcore
There really is nothing in terms pure adrenaline pumping, heart dropping and intense gaming
than that of hardcore character playing
Some of my best memories and back in Naam stories were from playing hardcore. I just get chillz remember how duriel one shotted a lvl 76 paladin , or fighting the ancients and watching your health drop faster than a Bangkok ho.and killing Baal. Best times
So when i play these story driven RPGs they are really short lived and are nothing short of a dial tone:erm:
It's funny how most of these lists never include the old classics such as:
Final Fantasy series
Suikoden Series
Persona Series
Tales of ... Series
Grandia 1&2
Breath of Fire
Disgaea Series
Legend of Dragoon
Xenogears
Chrono Cross
Chrono Trigger
etc etc those were the real deal rpg's not that I don't enjoy the new FPS RPG range![]()
Someone mentioned the sequel, Return to Krondor [which wasn't that great] , 4th post. But yes, Betrayal at Krondor was great, especially if you were reading Raymond Feist [The Magician etc] at the same time.
I've had my fair share of Final Fantasy, Persona, Phantasy Star and even all those old Sierra gamesIt's funny how most of these lists never include the old classics such as:
