Yeah, there are a bunch of people here from PCF it seems, thanks to this post: http://forums.pcformat.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=41753

Is that fair? It's like bussing in voters, to ask people from forums other than MyBB to vote for you.

EDIT: Nevermind, seems people picked up on it already.

EDIT2: But it's in bloody poor taste that a PCF staff member would use his power to shamelessly cheat in a competition, and on the official PCF forums as well.

:(

Please note that I did not cheat, since I can't win the prize you cannot call me a cheat. Informing people of the competition and that someone they have interacted with in the past could win something cool is not cheating, I did not make people vote for him I merely informed them of the opportunity to do so.

In regard with this competition, every Forumnite have a vote and is entitled to vote or let it slip by. I cannot say anything in regard with clones as this issue is still unclear to me in any MyBB participation, especially clones supporting themselves or even having closely debated discussions…

I early learned through experience that you will get nowhere when you don’t ask questions, we need answers. In this instance it came down to voting, even politics have a marketing campaign even should you not agree, but they can still convince you by creating a need to vote in their campaign success.

When it comes down to this competition and somebody asks them to vote, “my thread is a winner”, it is promoting and believing that you are a winner, this is a competition. In the end those who have a vote to make, did you use it or is it valued as unimportant? I made my vote to somebody who wants to win.

Did I enter the competition, no.

Sitting in the corner, won’t get you anything, you have to sell that human being you are.

No disagreements there, however it seems only acceptable to do so if it's not myself or one of my friends who were for me winning. That's the point I'm trying to make.

There is no difference in getting people to vote for my by mass pm'ing, or requesting help on other forums. That is "selling the human being that I am".

You were practically begging people to do so by tugging on their heartstrings. You encouraged cheating, whether you believed it to be for a good cause or not. There is no excuse.

It comes down to your target market, MyBB members had a vote and honestly should those you reached out to on other Forums being regular MyBB members, then there is no concern.

Sometimes you have to stand up and honestly explain your campaign, you used a "friend" to “sympathise” with another audience. That’s not a winner.

Crudstix

Just put an end to these "Vote-for-the-best" type competitions... nothing but drama and tears these bring.

I think you need to go back to the dictionary and look up cheating.

If i'm not mistaken, bio was always complaining about the PS3 and hardly ever used his so I don't see why he should win a PS4.

So the competition for best thread is not about the best thread, but how much a contender campaigns? It's about you wanting to be wooed? That is a terrible philosophy if you ask me.

And apparently people care more about beer than something that can actually improve their lives. That's one of the things wrong with people right there. Less brain and more mindless pleasures. Inspiring.

Yes exactly. And then the whole competition degenerates into a personal campaign, and becomes quite bitter. I've participated in comps where that happened and it never ends well. Just like this one in fact. I've personally refrained from any kind of campaign, whether on other forums or through PM's or personal requests of any kind because I find it so distasteful.

So how will people know about your thread without promoting it?

One would hope that the cream would rise to the top and the chaff would sink, and that would be apparent to an unbiased judge who could spend time looking through all the threads and evaluating them. There is some real quality here, like bullzeye_za's Linux thread for instance and dare I say my own contribution, and you really think it should be drowned out by popularity contests?

Didn't you know about mr_norris' thread? You know you have to vote here where all the threads are mentioned, right?

I expected an unrelated answer to my question. Great philosophy you have.

Honestly, this whole competition is started due to search engine searching leading people to MyBB. Yet, there is only two searches (options when it comes to the competition) which is relevant to me.

1. Recipe’s
2. Experience (in this case CRAFT beer)

I chose option 2, hence the OP promoted his thread. Cerebus was my other option.
