Beware when ordering from RARU...

Raru is not doing themselves any favours.
Seems like they have adopted some sort of drop shipping business model. We know that global supply chains still have not recovered post Covid lockdowns, so it is impossible to commit on any delivery dates when you make use of bulk freight to bring stuff into SA.
I have bought a ton of stuff from them in the past, including quite expensive guitars as they have variety of musical instruments on their site and I have never had an issue. I won't touch them now though.

If they want to survive as a business, they will have to issue a statement explaining why people are not getting their orders and what they are doing to fix it. Keeping quiet is just infuriating loyal clients and, if they do manage to sort the issues out in future, it is going to a massive hill to climb to get the clients back again.

Never had real issues with them until my last 2 or 3 orders. Nothing but delays and cancellations but this was the first time I asked for my money back after waiting for delivery since October. They kept blaming the suppliers when I asked for updates.
Same, I am completely done with them.

Bought 2 books from them, about a year apart. No problems.

Not to downplay other's problems. Yes, as the poster above says, they drop ship - get the order, buy the product and then ship it to the end user. They're not sitting with huge warehouses full of stuff. But then neither does Takealot.

What review site is that?

Hi,

Apologies for the late reply. If anyone feels that a website hosted on our network is against ISPA code of conduct we comply fully with any takedown notices received from ISPA.

To submit a request please visit https://ispa.org.za/tdn/take-down-form/

We can not divulge private information unless instructed by SAPS or compelled by a court with jurisdiction in SA.

Probably one of the best routes is to start case with ISPA/ICASA but even then it may or may not happen. Specifically talking about the ISPA and ICASA entities; in the past they sometimes fail at the task (or completes it well)

I wish I read this thread before I placed my order. I placed an order in May. It should have taken 7 to 10 days. I emailed them and got the following reply:

The unexpected implementation of flight restrictions to South Africa in the later part of 2021 caused severe disruption on the flow of imported goods into the country. It's estimated to arrive at our warehouse in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

The problem is I know who the supplier is and I confirmed with the supplier that they do sell to Raru. I also checked with the supplier that they had stock. The supplier is in Cape Town.

I will never buy from then again and make sure everyone know what a scam company they are.

Which can only mean they have severe cash flow problems?
Which would confirm that is the reason why they make people wait months for refunds.

I see Raru sent out a R150 off R1000 voucher this morning, probably need more cash so why not lure in some unsuspecting customers for some interest free bridging finance.

There's a point where the kind of problems customers have been experiencing with Raru cannot only be blamed on increased competition (for example from Takealot), and it becomes clear that mismanagement unethical practices are the bigger (unsolvable) problem.

Loot is another example.

Loot never used to be an issue for me, even though some have complained about the questionable ownership, but since lockdown they have quickly gone backwards and their waiting times and communication has been horrible. After my last two experiences I would generally now try to avoid them as far as possible.

When a company routinely starts slipping on promised order fulfilment dates, consumers should literally take that as the bad omen that it is.

What would be good is if Raru and Loot sorted their **** out and behaved ethically, I don't think it will ever happen under their current management teams.

Loot may be worse than Takealot but they are still leagues above Raru. I placed an order of 2 items recently from Loot, one item was sent incorrectly by their supplier, they swopped it out for the correct item no problem.

It did take a while to sort out but their comms were good and there was no question in my mind they were going to sort me out, unlike Raru that categorically do not give 2 fks about their customers.
