Big Windows 10 update launched today

The only change I noticed was that windows explorer title bars now have the same colour that you choose for the modern UI. Otherwise it seems stable, but then so did the last version for me.

As far as I'm concerned it's a one big "Meh".

Here's a few more according to Forbes:

Find My Device

Surprisingly Microsoft has chosen not to highlight one of the best features of Threshold 2: ‘Find my device’. Much like all the major OSes, you can now see your PC’s last known location but it needs to be enabled by default: Settings > Update & Security > Find My Device

Bigger Start Menu

The Start Menu returned in Windows 10, but with Threshold 2 it is more flexible. Users can now add a fourth column of medium-sized tiles by going to: Settings > Personalization > Start > Show more tiles.

New Skype Apps

Threshold 2 installs Messaging, Phone and Skype Video apps by default which may frustrate non-Skype users, but these are actually useful lightweight apps. Again they are hidden by default (as early releases I suspect Microsoft is keeping them out of sight for the mass market) but can be found in the app list or by using Cortana. They’re worth a try.

Improved Windows Snap

One of the simple and much copied features Windows 7 introduced was the ability to snap windows into halves of the screen by simply dragging them to the edge. Windows 8 then improved on this with Modern UI apps which automatically resized to fill the remaining space when one snapped window was moved. Now Threshold 2 brings this to Windows 10 for all types of window – just move your cursor between two snapped windows to get the new slider option.

Greater Installation Flexibility

If you want to install apps or programs onto a separate drive, now you can. Simply go to Settings > System > Storage to change the location.

Cortana Gets Chatty

Cortana keeps improving month-on-month and with Threshold 2 there are now settings added to provide you with notifications for missed calls as well as the ability to reply to SMS messages from the desktop – something akin to the functionality provided by Apple Continuity on iOS/Mac OS and Pushbullet Windows/Chrome OS/Android. The snag is this functionality only works if have a Windows Phone – and right now that’s a big ‘if’.

Windows 10 Gets Chromecast-ish

Compatibility with wireless streaming standard Miracast is a much underappreciated ability in Windows 10 but it might get more love now thanks to Threshold 2. A new Miracast icon will appear in audio, photo and video apps when on the same network as Miracast compatible devices. As cool as this feature is, however, a) compatible devices remain relatively few and far between and b) you need to be using the Edge browser. Both conditions which likely explain why Microsoft has given it a low profile for now.

Extreme Start Menu Colour Options

With Threshold 2 users are given complete control over the colour of the Start Menu and core UI elements. Go to Settings > Personalization > Colors (‘Colours’ in the UK) and you can make Windows 10 look as unique/crazy as you like.

Upgraded Edge Syncing

The potential of Internet Explorer replacement ‘Edge’ is there for all to see: it’s fast, smooth and stylish. But a severe lack of features (including any support for extensions) has hurt take-up. Threshold 2 doesn’t bring extensions, but plug another crucial gap: Cloud-syncing for passwords and favourites. Baby steps.

Enhanced Time Zone Support

Windows has long handled seasonal time changes automatically, but bizarrely it hasn’t offered to ever switch time zone automatically until now. For frequent travellers you’ll want to go to Settings > Time & Language > Set Time Zone Automatically. Why isn’t this flagged up in the main release notes? Perhaps Microsoft also thought this should’ve been added a long time ago too!

snip.

Still "meh". Except for the new windows snap features, that seems cool and something I'll be using a fair bit. Didn't know about that one, so thanks.

Ah looks like i just got it,checked for updates and there it was,i thought in win 10 ,updates are automatically downloaded

My upgrade was around 3.8GB and my laptop did the installation overnight (thank goodness for uncapped adsl). I woke up and saw everything was already done :)

Edit: My Cortana just started working with this new upgrade.

I disable all these 'features'. I need stable OS, not bul#$it. You are exited about Cortana, but Windows search still do not bring the right suggestion while typing. When I type "cmd" or "gpedit.msc" suggestion do not come till I get full string ready. It comes up finally, but only if I type it correctly without mistakes. It doesn't even bring lists of registered application, not to mention searching for extended properties, description or calendar notes like Apple does on my iPhone 4 (quite old device).

I see nothing important for me has changed in th2. Interface is still sluggish, it takes a half of second to open start menu or Explorer Window. None of the browsers remember the last position of my window (I use maximized vertically and quite narrow horizontally around 10:16). Booting takes long time. Fonts are reported better - maybe minimally, but it still doesn't compare to the crisp font rendering on XP an 7. And this tablet interface is not for desktop, I am more and more confident it will not work for me. Marring desktop and tablet doesn't work for desktop at all.

Interesting . It looks like Microsoft has learned that people tend to untick "live icons", so they decided to make it more difficult, putting it deeper in the menu. This is another clever move to force behaviour on the users and collect more revenue from advertisement. Bravo Microsoft! <VBG>

I'm busy downloading the media creation tool as we speak. Is it not worth the upgrade?

If it were not worth to upgrade from th1, I would tell you it. Wouldn't I? :)

And when I am helping a bit I am glad. :)

However Windows 7 and 8 users should consider a caution when taking decision for upgrading. Especially Windows 7 users.

I think I supply reliable information here. Please don't call me a hater or "uneducated lier". Microsoft moles call me that way.

But is still a complete reinstallation?
Or can it be upgraded on top of a win 10 that exist already?

Similar to the service packs you used to get,
Dont those exist? Or will they come later?

My update came via windows updates and it upgraded no issues (It did take around 2hrs though on my laptop). Only Dota2 had issues but after verifying files its also working fine.
