I have never paid for whatsapp and been using it for 3 years now.
Windows Phone?
I wonder if there will be a charge for non-BB users.
Article mentioned that it would be free...
I'm guessing you have a iPhone. On iPhone you pay for the first time and then it's free throughout. They did have a special last year where you could get it for free.I was charged $1 to load WhatsApp on a new phone a few weeks ago, so some of us are paying already.
I prefer BBM and will get it the moment it is available. Some people don't like the feature but I like getting the "R" when someone actually read the message and not just a second tick in WhatsApp that says it was delivered. Delivered is not the same as read. One sometimes need to know the message was actually read and not just sitting there on a phone unnoticed.
I think that it will be a free download, but you will need to pay to use it.

Just a note on that "R". Again never had a BBM, I think that would be the most annoying thing ever. At times I read messages on WhatsApp using the pull down function on Android, but you may find I'm wrapped up in something else that I postpone replying. I've seen people pinging each other several times just because they saw the message was read.
I never paid and recently received a free lifetime extension for 10 years.
