BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS announced

What I want to know is if they intend on using the pin method or if they are going to switch to using user numbers. With the user numbers as long as you have your contacts backed up (and iCloud does it automatically on iOS) if you switch phones it doesn't matter because your contacts are backed up. With a unique pin for each device it doesn't work like that, especially if it isn't a native app.
 
I was charged $1 to load WhatsApp on a new phone a few weeks ago, so some of us are paying already.

I prefer BBM and will get it the moment it is available. Some people don't like the feature but I like getting the "R" when someone actually read the message and not just a second tick in WhatsApp that says it was delivered. Delivered is not the same as read. One sometimes need to know the message was actually read and not just sitting there on a phone unnoticed.

I'm guessing you have a iPhone. On iPhone you pay for the first time and then it's free throughout. They did have a special last year where you could get it for free.

Just a note on that "R". Again never had a BBM, I think that would be the most annoying thing ever. At times I read messages on WhatsApp using the pull down function on Android, but you may find I'm wrapped up in something else that I postpone replying. I've seen people pinging each other several times just because they saw the message was read.
 
Smells like desperation, also one less reason to buy a blackberry. I think I will still stick to whatsapp and viber though.

I don't always reply if its not important. I certainly don't want someone pinging me.
 
If you can disassociate it from your mobile number and/or have backups of everything online then it will be great. i would actually like to have the same profile on two different phones, but maybe that is asking too much.
 
everyone just used a blackberry because of bbm and bis take away those components and you have a ****ty phone, So everyones going to be using Ios and android phones for bbm, no ones going to be using a blackberry

Same here (Didn't say 10 years though)

Now there is no reason to own a Blackberry.
I also got caught in the Blackberry hype......So happy I switched over to android when I did
 
Time to get my BBM only contacts back... Whatsapp is cool wish everyone was using it but too many people i know use BBM.

You can check their status on the message that you sent, it will show last seen at xx:xx or online. if xx:xx is after you sent it you know they've read it (at least in most cases).
