Vodascum and MTN must be at panic stations their gravy train is on the verge of derailing no more guaranteed R60 a month . This will pretty much kill off unlimited BIS also.
 
RIM missed the cross platform mobile messaging boat.
A bit ironic as they were one of the pioneers.

They should have released BBM 2-3 years ago.
Free on RIM/BB devices and a few dollars a year on other devices.

They would have made a fortune and bolstered the companies software offering.

Where I work, we went from 900 BES users to 600 BES users in 6 months.
At this rate we won't need BES in 1 year.

This is one of my favourite BBM features
 
Recently dumped my BB in favour of an S4 and whatsapp has filled the BBM void perfectly. I don't even have FOMO from missing the BBM status updates.....

I would probably download the android vrsion of BBM..... just because... but RIM have definitely missed the boat by a few years!

Not if they want to remain in contact with me and all their other whatsapp contacts who refuse to have another messaging service when we already have one that works pretty darn fine ;)

They can continue with their new bbm pin status updates on fb every few months :D

I would hardly call iOS and Android, all platforms.

Symbian, Windows Phone, Bada, Tizen and other Java enabled phones is not in that list, and do not get fooled by the Smartphone % charts as not everybody run with smartphones.

TL;DR there are other phones out there capable of running Whatsapp

See Nokia Ashia 210 for example.

Daughter (8 years old) has the Asha 201, she gets a bit cranky before the school starts and want to be able to speak to mommy and daddy. Anyway whatsapp works a treat on it, phone is just dang slow to what im used to, but yeah who buys a Galaxy S4 for a 8 year old anyways?

All my contacts that have Blackberrys are disappointed with WhatsCrap. ;)

I do hope that BBM will run on tablets. The reason iMessage gets so much use is that it runs on all my devices. Not being able to message on a tablet is what puts the crap in WhatsCrap.
 
What has happened to all the millions of Blackberry phones out there that we loved so much many years ago?
Simple we have bought iPhones or Android phones and gave our BlackBerry phones to our kids / others to use. So in order to keep in touch with our kids / others we would install the BBM app on our iPhones & Android phones

That and standard SMS is very limited technically. Sending multimedia is a problem, MMS does not completely solve this. Multi-SMS is not standardised across hardware vendors either.

My biggest complaint on iMessage, bar the fact that its iOS only, is that my chat logs do not sync.

Technically for me its the best. It syncs, you may decide to log out if you want to, so people can see you're not in the mood to talk, but they can still send it for you to view later.
 
The important people in my life use iMessage. I refuse to have anything Blackberry.
