BMW 320i vs 320D: your choice?

Hahaha foxy. Don't forget the dried fruit sticks you used to get at school. Those are a must if you have a packed lunch.

Yeah, I tried to buy a box of BMW-branded ones, but the lady at Woolies just looked at me like I was weird. Honestly can't find good staff these days.

SMG approved me, but at 14.5% :(

Really bad rate, let see if they can come down with it.

Ok 14.5% is fixed, so might take the deal considering that is fixed for the 5 years.

Congrats dude, you're so close! Why don't you just take a gamble and ask for them to give you a variable rate instead? Mine was 11.75%.

The nice part about BMW Financial Services is that it's 100% flexible, so you can restructure your financing after you've taken it. If you take a balloon, they allow you to decide later on to remove the balloon and just increase your repayments to compensate (which is something many other banks don't allow -> they keep that balloon right to the end and will only reduce your repayment term if you increase your monthly payments).

Yep asked them to see what can be done.

Insurance is sorted, its a killer because I am 27 years old. R1200 with excess at R5500. The sales guy even used all his discount to get it down, or that is what he is saying.
Will shop account for insurance a bit later.

Geez, that's a bit rough. How does your claim history look?

No surprise really if its fixed.

But ask for a variable quote as well.

BMW Insurance?

They were very very high when I quoted as well.

Best to use a broker and include it with your household stuff etc.

Just fyi, BMW Financial Services offers insurance as well ... just ask to get a quote from them. If you do combined household insurance for contents cover as well as your car cover, it will bring your premium down. I'm getting a quote from them this afternoon. At the moment I'm with Hollard through a broker, and it seems reasonable enough for me (was only a R200/month increase over my old premium for a C3). Maybe it helps that I'm 31 lol.

I am moving to BMW Insurance next month.
My current insurer bumped their premiums by 33%! I wasn't having that! BMW insurance are the cheapest I've found and less than I was paying before my premium went up!...AND dont require a tracking device
I will also be looking at moving household insurance to them........

Ok that's cool. I'll report back on how they compare after my quote too. Personally I'll be keeping my tracking device, Tracker is actually coming to do the installation this afternoon: for me it's a peace-of-mind thing, because my wife takes my car as well and if anything ever happens at least I have a chance of locating her with it.

BMW came back with R30 a month less on insurance, will just use king price as they premiums will drop every month if I don't claim.

Manage to drop the rate to 13.5% fixed, I will take it for now. Will just have work harder to pay it off asap :P

Should be Friday.

Will be taking a trip to knysna on that day, which should be awesome!

I need to remember to take car for inspection for the insurance before I leave to knysna.

Aah yes, the dreaded insurance inspection. I'll probably still have to do that with mine, although my broker hasn't asked me for it yet. Be sure to take lots of photos of your car in scenic places to make us people up in Gauteng real jealous!

Here's some consumer advice: my BMW Financial Services quote for combined car and household insurance didn't match my current insurance through a broker via Hollard at all.

The combined premium was higher, the excess was higher, the car rental period was shorter, and the All Risks' insurance was for less and cost more.

When I pointed this out to the sales rep, she sent me a new quote waiving the excess ... and that pushed up my premium even further! When I queried THAT with her, she phoned me and explained that all their quotes are system-generated and they don't have any room for flexibility.

My broker managed to get me a discount on the premium I was initially going to be offered by Hollard, so score another one for brokers.

TLDR: BMW Finance, good; BMW Insurance, not so good (depending on what you already have).
