BMW 320i vs 320D: your choice?

And now FiestaST? So silent. I thought you'd be the first person in with an opinion, especially after the pic from earlier ;)

Err ... the optional extras are pretty much just the front and rear PDC, lol. Everything else is standard Luxury Line trim, including those rims and the interior and exterior chrome detailing and wood finish.

Sadly my baby doesn't have the xenons, sunroof, heads-up display or ability to park itself, but this is exactly how I wanted it for my first BMW -> now at least I've got plenty of room to expand in a few years and really enjoy myself still.

The big ticket stuff that I wanted is all there: cruise control, bluetooth phone calling and that lovely auto box. Oh and can I just say I got into the back of the car and almost lost myself back there :) It's one thing to read about how there's a lot of room and another thing to experience it. I guess anything would feel massive coming from a C3!

I did at least get the paint protection plan that BMW offered me, which seemed like a good idea (I had that on my C3 and it came in really handy with all the careless damage people do in parking lots).

As for the C3, yes it was sad to see her being driven off, but I know that her next owners are going to get a great deal. She's been so well looked after and is in great shape, even with brand new Continental tyres. I'm grateful I got her, she saved me from a few years in a Renault Sandero (my previous car -> the old shape).
 
I even got some BMW swag, including a branded bag, quality BMW hat (not in pic) and a heavy-duty keyring. Loving the quality so far: my first car with an owner's manual in a leather folder.

Careful with that manual when you take it in for services at independents and such. They love stealing the mats and manuals.

Sheesh, I do normally check the manual but didn't know I needed to start counting the mats too lol. Thanks for the advice!

Standard spec on the Lux Line like you mentioned is rather comprehensive as well so that's good.

Digging that swag. Once you settled then owners club & then finally BMW school of driving! Haha

Good idea buddy, will check that out :) First I want to read the instructions manual to figure out how to change the battery in my remote (apparently getting that done at BMW costs R150 or so), but my sales guy said it's a R50 watch battery and it's easy to change yourself.

Next on the agenda: figuring out how the "Classic" interior lighting scheme differs from the "Luxury" scheme. Gonna go for my first night drive to appreciate it :D
 
Some consumer advice: I managed to pry open my key remote. The instructions are in the manual, but it's still hella tight to get into. Turns out it has a standard CR2450B battery from Sony in there, so I'll be hunting those in the shops soon.

Also I spotted this on the back of the BMW keyring I got (photo above):

I have to give them points for staying on-brand with that :) (particularly in the light of Peugeot South Africa being acquired by a Japanese holding company).

Hope mine also comes with the "swag" lol

I think you might be able find some aftermarket "angel eyes". I saw post of an guy in the USA custom making them, looks as good as the original ones. He was charging 500 US dollars, compared to 18k zar bmw charges for them.

Nah, yours will win lol. I did annihilate some Hyundai sedan yesterday though, what a legend :D

Good luck getting the swag! I've just gotta get smash and grab installed on my windows, that's about as far as I go with aftermarket parts.
 
*rolls the drums* More BMW consumer advice :)

I successfully completed my BMW battery expedition this morning.

Turns out that for the battery that BMW would have charged me R175 to replace in one remote, I could purchase two for both my remotes and still have R55 change left over. Best of all, I found the exact Sony model within the BMW remotes (at R60 each), so it's not like there's anything dodgy:

And here's where I found that in Centurion mall (Pick n Pay, Dischem, Clicks and Kodak all didn't carry this size at all -> I reckon the best bet is always going to be a locksmith that deals with remotes):

Battery replaced and low battery error cleared automatically in the car :)

Wellll ... the BMW cap is the nicest quality baseball cap I've seen. So you might say I paid R250 000 for a cap that just so happened to come with a 320i on the side. Still worth it :D

ROFL. It's a cooler bag dude, with two extra compartments. This being BMW I guess the goal is to have a small bottle of Chardonnay in the main compartment, and an emergency pocket of basil and one of juniper tea leaves. Personally I'm just gonna stick a sandwich and some fruit in there, so maybe a branded BMW bag is a bit over the top for those modest needs :D
 
Hahaha foxy. Don't forget the dried fruit sticks you used to get at school. Those are a must if you have a packed lunch.
