I am interested to see what type of content you can pull. I had the boxee pc interface loaded, but struggled to find anything worthwhile to watch.

With the unit and a US account, this could well replace DSTV, please keep us updated on what you have access to!

Edit: are you going to try hulu or netflix, or something else for content?

also R2719 from expansys locally

Too soon to say... I'll have to see whats available, there seems to be a problem with ADSL in my area, so at the moment I don't think streaming is a possibility.

I think considering the cost of take2 and expansys, its a lot quicker and cheaper to order from bhphoto... I first tried amazon, but their shipping was quite a bit more, putting it at around R2,900.

Got home, unpacked... turned on... 187min update on 4MB line :(

Second problem - The remote isn't backlit - and its in a projector room.

Eish.. JUST in time :p

187mb Update shouldn't take TOOO long though.

Wonder how the hell it can be that big?

I downloaded the latest version of boxee last night and it was like 50mb or so.......

If you were on MWEB, it does look like their international connectivity is a BIT wonky atm...

Openweb Gold...

Although my downloads have apparently been sitting at 300-400KB/s the entire day, then dropped at 7pm... good timing, 32% and waiting :(

Good. Luck

Sent from my u8800 using MyBroadband Android App

Finally after about two hours I got this right using a download manager and manually flashing the firmware...afterwards it was clean sailing, although I found using the keyboard and numbers to be VERY un-user-friendly.... will see if there's something I'm doing wrong... it could also REALLY use a back light.

Other than that - I played a 720p series over the network without hitch, I then tried a 12GB movie for a couple of seconds without issue, I could also jump forward a lot faster than the mede8er... I just need to try watching a full movie to see if I have the same drop-outs I had with the mede8er.

I tried a few of the boxee apps, and they all gave "CAN'T DOWNLOAD ERRORS" - not sure if its my connection - will try again tonight... only had 1hr of play last night.

With regards to meta-data scraping, I only had two series, The Walking Dead and Gods of the Arena, it couldn't find Gogs of the Arena - movies, it missed about half of them - and my naming convention is as per the guide.... will see this evening if it managed to resolve them.

Not a great start then... :(

Let us know what online content you have access to out the box, and of course quality of streaming if possible.

Just reading this:
Netflix.com said:
How fast does the TV episode or movie start playing?
Fast – movies & TV episodes start playing in seconds. It will depend on the speed of your broadband Internet connection. Movies & TV episodes are streaming over the Internet, so you don't have to wait for them to download. There are no commercials and you can pause, rewind, or fast forward as often as you like. Watching for 1 hour will use approximately 1GB of bandwidth or approximately 2GB if you are watching in HD. You have the option to set your account to "no HD" if you prefer. Check with your Internet provider for information on possible data usage charges.

Seriously going to have to hammer my 4MB line to get this right.

Nerf - that sort of nullifies the point of having a boxee. If he wants to predownload content, he might as well use utorrent and stream over a PS3.

The strength of the boxee is all the content that is available at this minute, just click and watch....the test is whether he CAN just click and watch, and what exactly he CAN watch, if its at all relevant or interesting.

I am interested in Sport and Series, if XrapidX gives good feedback on using the boxee to stream this stuff on an uncapped line, then my order is as good as done.

^^ what he said :)

I'd imagine the 10MB/s guys would be fine... but 4MB is cutting it close.

It looks like you can register a netflix account out of country if you have a US address (no need for a proxy) - I wonder if I can put in Amazons address :p
