Hi Guys

I'm on 4Mbps Line with 4Mbps Business Uncapped @ Afrihost.

Line has some packet loss and high latency, I think this might be due to a congested exchange.

It would be really awesome if anyone could give me any information or advice on how to move to a possibly less congested exchange with aim of resolving my painful problem.

Thanks!

Wireless Internet

Good day,

Why don't you have a look at maybe investing in Wireless Internet? Its much more reliable and ADSL and less of a hassle, and the problem gets sorted out ASAP.

If your interested, send me a msg and I can give you some more information.

Not necessarily, not to mention heavy usage tents to be discouraged, Bryanston's DSL infrastructure was fixed up a year or two back and its currently holds the fastest average speeds in SA, if your line is with Afrihost PM Afriman, else logon to Clientzone and perform a port reset yourself, if your line is with Telkom then PM the Telkom rep, wireless should be a last resort if you have access to fixed line systems.

Here is my tracert from Bryanston, I think my MSAN is along Cumberland or Homestead judging by my attenuation and SNR

Morné I've got a friend near Krugersdorp who needs wireless internet that isn't 3G from the incumbents, preferably uncapped with NO throttling over specific limits (mimicking DSL basically) do you guys have an affordable package with coverage surrounding Krugersdorp?

Segg,

Tiaan is in Bryanston East - where there are no MSAN's. I am too, so I got excited when I saw yet another contractor digging trenches along my street (the company name escapes me, but they do fibre installations). No sign of any MSAN foundations yet though - and Afrihost tells me that Bryanston exchange has about 3% free ports, whatever that means.

So no, all is NOT wonderful for ADSL users in Bryanston East. I am seeing serious packet loss and ridiculous high pings of 1-2 seconds on the first hop during the evening peak, making live gaming and media streaming completely unusable. Daytime is fine, although I'm only able to connect reliably at 3Mbps on a 10 Mbps exchange, due to long lines and old infrastructure.

Anyone else having this problem?
