Burgundy Estate: ADSL Availability update

Zortex: We have just moved to Smallville in BUrgundy Estates and are struggling to get internet. We have tried telkom and they say they do not have a line and then we tried Neotel and they said they cannot pick up our suburb. How did u go about getting ur internet installed etc?

Looks you guys in BE should band together and get a couple of ADSL lines in one location
and then share them wirelessly, if their is a relatively high site that can see the estate

Put ADSL Modems in Bridge mode and you insert your own PPPoE account into a Mikrotik
or Linux box ie ClearOS or IPCop or SmoothWall Web Proxy/SMTP/Anti-Virus.

Just to update you again, my phone line has been installed in December 2010. So Indigo Estate is wired now. I also have 384 ADSL now, but the line stats indicate that the exchange is very far away (about 5km). The good news is that they are currently building a mini-DSLAM in Richwood, and I suspect that it will use the newer ADSL2+ equipment, which is 10mbps capable. The new DSLAM is to be completed end of January 2011, and after completion all ADSL from Burgundy Estate will go through the new DSLAM. This means that everyone should be able to get proper fast ADSL soon and there should be a number of ports available soon.

Burgundy Estate ADSL: I have just got confirmation that my ADSL is activated

Hi guys,

Just a heads up - I got confirmation that my ADSL is activated. I stay in Ruby Estate ( Burgundy Estate. Think those who still want ADSL need to get to Telkom....there are new ports available.

So happy...will be setting up my line this evening...

I got confirmation from the network planner that the DSLAM in Richwood will be active in the next week or so. Unfortunately it is only 4mbps.

I spoke to a network planner this morning. There are two new DSLAM cabinets in Burgundy Estate. They are currently empty but will be operational by end of March 2012. The IPC cards will naturally be 10mbps+ capable, but they cannot as of yet determine what kind of backhaul will be available, so its uncertain whether the maximum line speed will be 4 or 10mbps.

That's great news guys - currently only getting 1mbps and I stay in Ruby Estate. Looking forward to the upgrade and hope it is 10mbps.
 
i stay in a place called Melbosch Village, telkom use the same excuse, no provisioning, which i assume is the developers fault, the fools. So here I sit too without having the opportunity to get a basic ADSL line

Are you connected to the midi dslam in richwood?

Also, what speeds are you other guys in Burgundy getting. My best in Richwood is 2Mb.

I asked them when we signed up about 8 months ago and called the call centre a few times to see if we can get more than 1mbps but they said that 1mbps was the best. I think I should maby check with them again - we are connected to the Bothasig exchange. We had to wait a while a port to be available as well.
 
Hmm odd, you can request that they move you over to Richwood R3 mini DSLAM, but it might not be worth your while. If the network planner's statement is accurate and the Burgundy DSLAM is completed early next year, you might as well wait. My move from Bothasig to Richwood DSLAM took about a 2 months, most of which was spent without internet.
 
Hi guys,

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread...
Just moved into Burgundy, new complex called Sierra Views very close to the clubhouse. Having issues getting a line, one person says no lines, another says she can see there are 500 open ports with 40Mbps availability :/

Anybody have advice?

The area was upgraded to 40mbps VDSL a few weeks ago so the "500 open ports" answer is correct. Before that it was only 10mbps. You shouldn't have an issue getting a phone line anymore - most of the infrastructure is now built. You can always visit the Telkom store in Canal Walk if the call center can't help you. You can give Telkom the number of Burgundy Estate Luxury Apartments (021 558 2705) if they keep telling you no ports are available.

I applied for an upgrade and it is in process. Currently on 10mbps and going to 40mbps.
