Burgundy Estate: ADSL Availability update

I applied for an upgrade and it is in process. Currently on 10mbps and going to 40mbps.

Nice! You going to eat through data with that!

I'm not having much luck, applied for an Afrihost SIM in the meantime
Telkom still says there's no infrastructure where my complex is, a note was left on my application to say "Under Investigation for local leads"

Will pop through to the Telkom store to see if they can give me more joy.
Its so frustrating knowing there's a 40Mbps connection waiting for me but no cable to get me there while the agent is pushing me to towards a 36 month LTE contract

So line got upgraded but only on 20mbps adsl2+. It's still better than 10mbps. Gonna wait till later in the week and try again for 40mbps.

Why only 20mbps? Did Telkom give you a reason?

I'm starting to think we should start to compile a list of people in Burgundy interested in getting Telkom FTTH, and send it to Telkom.

Or send it to us. You don't need Telkom for fibre connections these days, and we're, let's put it this way, a little quicker than most organisations where decisions require bureaucratic processes. ;)

So Telkom have come back with.. "Sorry we can't provide infrastructure to your home but we can give you LTE"

I'm in talks with the body corporate to have a Wireless provider put up a highsite and supply the complex, spoke to Sprintnet yesterday, they seem keen.

Anybody else have alternatives? Our complex has 84 units, would it be feasible for a company like Crystal Web to lay fibre?

I was thinking of moving in there soon...not going to if this hasn't been resolved yet.

Any update on the matter? Did you managed to get an adsl line installed or any alternatives?

Thanks

I would not move there ,because of the insane amount you pay for electricity in that area.

In my particular case, no, however the other day I saw a Telkom van a few plots down in my street (Viridian), stopped and asked if there is infrastructure and he said yes but no cabling to Sierra Views yet.

I reckon once Telkom gets enough installation requests from my complex they will eventually provision. Guess it boils down to exactly where in Burgundy you planning to move.

Thanks for the feed back. Was planning on moving to Sierra Views.

Not a prob!
I am in talks with the Body Corporate to get a Wireless provider to setup a Highsite. Recieved proposals from Sonic Wireless and Sprintnet

Thats good news. So what are you using for internet at the moment then?

Afrihost 10 + 10 GB
Had to downgrade d/l from HD to SD else the bandwidth can disappear in a few hours. Get 11Mpbs down

Hi guys,

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread...
Just moved into Burgundy, new complex called Sierra Views very close to the clubhouse. Having issues getting a line, one person says no lines, another says she can see there are 500 open ports with 40Mbps availability :/

Anybody have advice?

Hi,

Did you manage to get a line installed? I also stay in Sierra Views, phoned Telkom and they said there is no infrastructure and they can only start planning in April when their new financial year starts. I think the best way is to go wireless and get a dish installed.

Hey, Sorry I'm not sure what the current state of affairs is on that side of Burgundy. Before you go that route, perhaps just give the network planner for the area at Telkom a call. I'll PM you his details. Depending on the amount of data you intend on using, Vodacom LTE seems to be your best alternative in the meantime.

Please update us with any further news. I contacted Telkom with regards and was told they should have adsl there by end of Feb, this was there Facebook team. Seems the are just thumb sucking dates and telling people different things. Mobile data just isn't cutting it....

Unfortunately nothing my side.. I was also told they will only consider installation in April. Are you perhaps my neighbor, I'm in N Block ;)

Not sure if any of you have noticed, the exchange is literally across the road, right outside Burgundy Luxury Apartments

Apparently all the exchanges are full and there is no ports available to anybody for Telkom lines. They are in the process of upgrading/adding new exchanges to keep up with the demand. They said that this would be completed on the 14th of April 2015. I currently stay in Viridian street and cant get an adsl until the upgrades have happened :(

My mom is building a house here, wait till my bro finds this out lol
