Call recording apps that actually work well

Don't speak nonsense. I'm on Q and have call recording baked into the phone app by Google.

Do you run Android 9 or 10 and which device do you have? How do you get it and why don't I?

Starting with Android 10, Google killed call recording by default and on May 11, the company is implementing new Google Play Store policies preventing third-party apps from using the Accessibility API for recording the call audio stream.
Actually it started on Android 9 - Pie. Since then no Android phone could do phone call recording. No device had native ability to do so. Some claims they do but they simply outright lie. Google killed it all off. Some apps still offered recording via speaker, but these recordings are useless. Now Google is ridding them too.

Some do

They just support it in certain countries ie if your country code supports it it shows up

In SA it is legal to do one party consent so there is no reason why it should not be there

But alas i suppose our market is just to small to tailor things for

Just bought a samsung changed the country code and boom native recording works no loudspeaker work around needed

Was using a xiaomi before and it supports call record just not auto record and played a notice which a work around can be done to disable been misbehaving with latest firmware or maybe just had too many drops already

The thing is in South Africa it is totally legal to record any conversation to which you are party to without informing the other party or obtaining their permission. You are totally free to read up the various acts or join the Facebook Group, Legal Talk and ask this question to the attorneys to answer you this.

So, there are absolutely no reason why these apps should be removed or limited. At least, no legal reason.

Lastly, for those who does not know, since the recording is done over speaker and not properly any longer, no such recording will stand in any criminal or civil matter in any SA court.

The native recording does not need loudspeaker

That was one part of the problem we tried to solve

Google stopped recorders from grabbing the sound coming from other party in areas that have two party consent and hence why loudspeaker was used by many to circumvent

ie you record the other persons voice with your microphone played over loudspeaker

Certain areas allow and in those areas your phone recorder can grab the audio , resulting in less echo and glitches and you end up with a clearer recording

Yay no more loudspeaker recordings for her and naturally the auto record wasn't available in the firmware of our aging xiaomi note 9s global rom

The xiaomi also recorded nice and clear thanks to no loudspeaker hack but played a "this call is now being recorded" just after the call is connected which we removed with ttslex (though wasn't to happy with the permissions that needed to be granted)

We went through different phases ie used loudspeaker until the notice could be disabled
The auto was the last part that was why we went new phone

Weighing up the gamble of buying xiaomi again cause we know it supports grabbing the audio

But she has been finding the notifications reliability to be sub par after firmware updates, out the box phone was awesome

After seeing many indian/asian videos on galaxy phone recording i just thought worst case scenario i would flash the samsung with one of those roms/firmware

But luckily some of the csc codes part of our multi csc group. Support the feature so warrantee should be intact can just change code back to SA code if needed

I use ACR Phone and it works pretty well on my Samsung.

Definitely not on mine. Although, it did through the speaker, but any call recorded in that manner was deemed inadmissible in court cases and therefore unusable. Call recording apps died the moment Google killed it off. All apps that still do is basically useless.

But I suppose if you still have a Samsung device using an OS older than Pie, then call recording is still possible. ACR was one of the apps warning people not to upgrade to Pie.

Could never get call recording to work on the latest android builds on my Xiaomi.

It will happen eventually on all devices. Call recording is dead. The only thing I do not understand is why. Call recording without a person's permission or notifying a person is perfectly legal in South Africa according to the RICA act, as long as you are party to the conversation. So, why kill it off on phones when you are naturally party to any call on your phone?

That being said, we now have VoiP phones and people need to call a certain number where calls are automatically recorded via other software and stored online where we can access and/or download it at any time.

What did you change the country code to ?

What did you change the country code to ?
On my multi csc i usd TUN

But understand LYS and iLO also does

It depends on which multi csc you are on

If thailand THL is part of your options it does support call recording

But it wasn't part of my multi csc options

I used samfw tool

Under ADB tab it has a change CSC option

I just went through the drop down list until i found one that enables recording

Did not cause a factory reset

How safe the software is i can't vouch for

I think my wife did a factory reset after just in case

It did run an exploit that failed
But changed the csc code still

And from googling i also see that it is possible to have phones that have this csc locked and cannot be changed at all , normally phones that are network locked from what i understand

Could never get call recording to work on the latest android builds on my Xiaomi.
which version do you have , we also could not get 3rd party recorders to work , well it worked initially pre updates, the native option did though

but crap because the record option lies under more and can only be pressed once the call is answered
so you have to essentially take the phone away from your ear after call has been answered
so you either have to be rude or have it on loudspeaker initially
then tap record then take it of loudspeaker

not really answering in public friendly

glad we then went samsung cause i was uncertain , maybe the newer xiaomi doesn't have the option

though from what i understand the Chinese firmware version does support call recording but arrives without google play and could not get much info on the global version

so was a coin toss, and since she was complaining the notifications and some other apps wasn't behaving as expected i thought samsung

the whatsapp call recording no luck yet with cube acr

suppose rooting may be next step

she has found that screen recording grabs the other sides sound but not hers (which is what she wants, but half sided convo isn't ideal )
so some progress on that front but not much

None of the call recorder apps work anymore. Even when I try a voice recorder app now, it does not get the phone speaker sound.

Does anyone have a solution other than physically recording the calls with another device?

The Google phone app has recording built in.

The issue is that your phone's CSC (region) determines if the feature is enabled or not. I believe that app also needs to be pre-installed by manufacturer as it needs to be installed as a system app, and not an app from the store.

There are ways to change your phone's CSC, but I haven't tried myself. I think that even changing the CSC to a region that allows recording, no app will record calls unless it's a system app.

Thanks. Only noticed that on the Google phone app now. I tried changing my location to Kenya on the Xiaomi, a country that seemingly allows the recording but it did not work either.

I think without rooting the phone, there is not much you can do. It sucks

I'm using a POCO F5 and my built in Google Phone app call recorder works.
