Calling all gamers

can we get a reply from the starter of this topic to see if they actually working on this? This problem been going on for ages. I actually tried it using my cell on a SA server with a small 10meg game and i had over 100 ping which is better then most but still terrible considering i can download at about between 50-100 kb/s on a good day. ADSL 512k was better and yes i understand that's a fixed line etc but how when i can download so fast do i have a high ping in games? Any progress on the outcome vodacom3g?

- What is the problem (lag, latency, ping, disconnects)
Extremely high latency - Getting over 5000ms is currently the rule rather than the exception
Lag spikes - Getting a lot of lag spikes where I can't do anything. Mostly lasts a couple of seconds per spike, but it regularly goes longer, like a few minutes per spike.
- What game are you playing (is it a FPS, real-time or turn based etc)
World of Warcraft (MMORPG)
- Which data card are you using
E220 standard with no upgrades
- Is it a new problem or has it always been
It has been very bad this week. For Chrismas I was in Klerksdorp, so I am not including that. Before Christmas it was ok, but worse than usual. It used to be a lot better about 3 months ago, where I was averaging about 600-800ms.
- Is the problem experienced at all times of the day or only during peak hours
I play during the evenings, so I only say for sure that it happens then (From 6 to 12 in the evening). I was on for a few minutes this afternoon and also saw high latency
- The exact location so we can also check the site covering you
Bryanston, in the Mill Hills apartment complex. Corner of Main Rd and Norman Ave.
- The modem type and firmware rev.
E220 modem. I can't find the firmware version, but I have never update the firmware. I got the modem in December 2007, if that will help any.
I use VMCLite 2.2.2.1 to connect.
- The APN you used
Vodacom-SA. It is the standard one you select from the dropdown sometimes on connection.

Can we get an idea about what is being done about the problem and how long it will take to fix? It has been especially bad for me this last week. I am already thinking about going ADSL if this keeps up for too long. I have never been too happy with the Vodacom data contract, but since I have an apartment now, I have the other options available to me.

What is the problem (lag, latency, ping, disconnects)

- What game are you playing (is it a FPS, real-time or turn based etc)

- Which data card are you using

What's wrong with the service in the Bluff area? Seems that when we want to game on line we do not get the same connection as we used to.

Have we been limited to what we can get out of HSDPA when online to game?

This never used to be so bad!?

Apparently gaming ports are being held back on vodacom.

Is this true or not? Is it just temorary or is it permanent?

Couldn't game last night from 7 til about 9:30 - Massive lag and dc's.
from 9:30 was smooth sailing again.

Haven't heard or experienced any gaming port anomalies.

This whole week i have had bad lag spikes from 5 onwardand constant latency of 400, so spike every 2 secs?-playing dota, over the weekend constant ping of 120/140 no spikes,

Any1 else experienceing this still:mad: moved from mtn to voda in a space of a weak bought 1 gigs on both, but still both seem to fail and waste ppls time online here in sa- sometimes u just have enuf and have 2 resort to hellkom

this is how pathetic my upload is ;/

with 5 bars of signal-modem hanging outside for max reception

ping of 648-3000 tonight tried 2 upload image but no luck

Gaming on the vodacom has been terrible since Sunday(15 February 2009) . I also heard that running the unrestricted APN doesnt help. Now i do not know what to do maybe move to telkom and try my luck with them

V3g the person i talked to on the 155 line told me to apply for the unrestricted APN and logged my call so i have done everything on my part so hoping for vodacom to figure out what is happening.

Unrestricted apn is not going to solve your problem. PM me your details as per my sig.

You know how rumors are flying around we'll this is one of those "rumor" thingy's.
Whilst trying to play a clan match on xbox live during wednesday evening a person in our lobby said that everyone using vodacom 3g is having trouble playing online and the same person said that he heard that they (meaning vodacom) are port blocking all gamers on their network.

Hence- My ridiculous post about "apparently vodacom port blocking" sorry.

I have noticed the following regarding my connection via E272 modem and laptop.

I get decent downlink and uplink speeds with and ave ping of 300ms but for some reason my NAT has changed from OPEN to MODERATE. I always had an open NAT when using the "unrestricted" APN and a moderate NAT using any other APN whether "Internet" or "InternetVPN".

When palying online i have gone from a healthy 3 bars to an unhealthy one red bar with massive lag. (pull trigger wait 11.2433 seconds bullets hits wall scenario)

I would just like to know if there is a problem nationally with regards to gaming on vodacom 3G or if there is no problem.

I have phoned 155 for assistance and they just took me through the process of changing my APN again so that did not change my situation.

PS. i even switched off my firewall and virus scanners to see if it makes any difference but it did not.

Please help.

*waiting for a kick in the face*
