Any wiggle room in that budget? http://tinyurl.com/2ahggbzHaha yeah, the 24-70mm is a mouth-waterer..... but I'd have a lens budget of under R8000.

The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 HSM (which bwana has) might fit into that.
Geez, it's £584 (R6634) in the UK and $899 (R6521) in the US. Might be worth importing it.
You dont like saving money?Yeah.... I'm not quite the importing type![]()

From what I can tell . . . Amongst other things the 18-135 is EF-S, not usm, doesn't support full time manual focusing and looks like a lump of plastic. What's the difference between
Canon EFS 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Canon EF 28 - 135 mm f 3.5 - 5.6 IS USM
? Both are the same price and reviews are similar-ish I think.

Canon EF 28 - 135 mm f 3.5 - 5.6 IS USM sacrifices 10mm of the wide end but isnt any of the aforementioned.
I hope you're not discounting the 24-70 I suggested just because it's a sigma.Yeah, I saw that a while after I posted it
I think I'm only gonna take the 550D for now, I will rather save up and buy a proper lens (like the Canon EF 24 - 70mm f2.8 L ) when I can afford it.
[/QUOTE]1fps seems a little low to me. DPReview got a 3.4fps while shooting RAW (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos550d/page12.asp). It may have been the AF mode you were in (which can slow down the 7D considerably), or one of the other settings you were using at the time. One last question.
If shooting in RAW... the 550D and the ones around it has a fps of ~3.5fps.... is this for jpeg/RAW or both?
Now I tested the RAW on it and I get about 1fps. Would this be due to the camera not being able to shoot RAW faster, or would it be due to the memory card only supporting 15MBps (the RAW image is ~13MB). I can get a Sandisk SD extreme but it's double the price.

You only pay VAT on lenses . . . and it doesnt hurt being VAT registered. That said - HOW ON EARTH do you get it by customs ?
I have wanted to do this for quite some time now, but the uncertainty of the customs.. eish*
;-(
Nope, not at all... just used that one as an example. I've seen a fair amount of Sigma lenses that perform really well.I hope you're not discounting the 24-70 I suggested just because it's a sigma.
Yeah, I think you're right. I put it on P and it gave me one shot per second. On M it went ahead fullsteam. Will play around with it a little more and see what causes it to slow down that much.1fps seems a little low to me. The faster the card the faster your buffer should clear so it might be worth it to get the faster card.
Do you know this from experience or assuming it will? I thought it was only the 1D series that retained AF at f/8. I'd test it but I don't have any lenses that slow that will take my TC.
I've always wanted to give the old dust pump a try. Maybe I'll rent one for the CLT20 next month.I quickly checked the lens manual... yeah it's only the 1D series that can. But with the 2x tc there is no AF at all.
One of the best things to come out of a 60D release might be a significant price drop in the 50D.I spent a load of time now looking at the 550D and the 50D .... both cameras are awesome.
The only thing that puts me off of the 50D is the fact that it has a poor per pixel quality.... and this is evident in all the reviews, and you can see the difference when you compare it to the 40D (very good pixel quality), similar Nikon and Pentax cameras.
.... so I'm going to wait and see what the 60D has to offer,
