One of the best things to come out of a 60D release might be a significant price drop in the 50D. :)

I'm off to order a grip for my 7D - maybe it will help me to forget it's not another 1D :D

Yeah, or the 60D will not have the pixel quality issue that the 50D has, and be affordable (all Canon's said is it will be priced between the T2i and the 7D). However, only reviews have been critical of the 50D in that regard. Not a single person on any forum I've browsed, has had any disturbing things to say about the 50D.

The only thing that puts me off of the 50D is the fact that it has a poor per pixel quality.... and this is evident in all the reviews, and you can see the difference when you compare it to the 40D (very good pixel quality), similar Nikon and Pentax cameras.

This was so hyped when the 50D came out. Yet I don't really see it (I've owned the 40D before). Every review said the 50D's sharpness is hardly higher than the 40D, while it has 50% more pixels. To my eyes, the various photozone.de lens reviews disproved this, particularly the new 70-200mm f/2.8.

That's because images speak louder. The only complaint I have with the 50D is banding in the boosted ISO modes (6400, 12800). I'm sure there is an IQ difference in paper, but as I've said before, I very much doubt anyone would be able to tell them apart in a "blind" test.

Yeah I agree with you there. I found a review between the 7D and the 50D with photos all over the 100-12800 ISO range. The 50D looked pretty decent up to 6400 where it started looking fugly. If you don't enlarge the photo to ie more than A4, you won't even see the difference.

They say the 60D won't have the magnesium alloy body :(

Ok. Got a point there.

If they could do it another way? I've got a swivel on the SX1 and always use it ... Especially for odd angles

I dont see the harm as long as it doesnt add to the bulk of the camera.

True that. Not particularly fond of those though. Reports are that the LCD is somewhat smaller (2.8" instead of 3.0") in order to not mess with the size of the camera. But it will make the camera more prone to have breakable parts (I think you should get what I'm saying).

That's what the viewfinder is for :p

... but, if the camera is on - for example - the floor? ;)

Or I took a few shots of the crowd during World Cup where I needed to hold the camera above my head?

+1

I use the viewfinder 95% of the time, but a swivel screen is extremely handy for the odd-angle shot - especially if you have a baby in the house.

You don't need a swivel viewfinder, just practise at getting the camera pointing in the right direction ;)

The 7D was on special this weekend, so picked one up for R13k this morning. Also got the 16GB CF Extreme Pro (the Extreme was out of stock)...
Absolutely awesome... that's all I can say.

Nice, my 32gb card (plus my eye-fi and Lexar UDMA FW800 CF reader) arrived today so now I've got plenty of room to start experimenting with the 7Ds video. :)
