  1. How do you know it is the modem that is stupid?

  1. Maybe I'm just really annoyed.

[*]How do you know the modem doesn't try to go better than Edge?
Oh maybe it's that little icon in the bottom left of the connection software which indicates edge or wmda, I'm also testing the speed with my browser, it's definitely edge, trust me.

[*]What do you men you tried "changing the wmda setting"? You either changed it or you didn't change it.
    Yes I changed it.

[*]Have you installed the modem drivers that enable you to force the modem to only connect through WCDMA?
    No where are these drivers?

[*]Whose 3G network do you see on the Vodacom modem and Vodacom sim, Vodacom or Cell C's?

    Vodacom

Posting this connected with my Cell C modem from guess where? Goodwood, Cape Town.

How about trying a little thing called empathy? I've had this package for almost 2 weeks now, and I've been stuck on edge the whole time, also bought a new modem, should I really have to do all these things? Now I'll have to try and download the software, I really hope it works. 5th time lucky huh?

Okay thanks very much Anton, it's working now, pretty good speeds. Still wish it would work like that out of the box.

I retract all my previous comments, altho I doubt the Joesolos out there would figure this out easily.

Cool, what was the problem in the end?

Had to update the USB stick drivers to force wmda/hdspa only.... it works, does fluctuate a bit but still some really good speeds I have to admit. Hope it lasts.

I have a strange issue when I'm on "WCDMA only" mode using thew patch provided by Tun@ sometimes I loose the signal completely. Then the modem doesn't find WCDMA signal anymore until I disconnect it and connect it again to the USB port. Is the new driver able to fix this issue?

It looks like it is losing connection and get stuck on 2100MHz band trying register to other networks. It never comes back to 900MHz. In my case changing to EDGE-only helps to register, then 3G-only, no need to reconnect.

have been in email contact with cellc. And they will be adding the "WCDMA only" to the dashboard so hopefully it should be released soon. The person that has been escalated to is on leave but will be sorted when he returns.

You might like to have a look at post #2 if you want it working,we've already fixed that here.

I am aware of that and i even have it on my machine. But it is an unofficial fix. I was talking abut an official release from cell c

Another option for some people is to download stick firmware updates, and general version of the Mobile Partner dashboard app from http://www.dc-files.com/
What helps me is that there are both windows and mac versions there, for EVERY MODEL of stick nearly.

I have a netgear router, was using the usb extension at work yesterday connected to laptop. For some reason my stick was just flashing dark blue could not open any website. Downloaded the C dashboard and forced to WDCMA only. yipee was working again. But found it pretty strange.

do you loose your warranty on your modem if you decide to flash this firmware and general mobile partner dashboard?

Changing the Dashboard files back to original is straight forward & easy.
Changing the firmware back is not as easy unless the 5th set of digits ends in 00 - same as CellC's eg 11.831.03.00.00
The file downloads in the start of this thread only change the Dash

Saw Cell C showing as an available connection on the space where I normally pick-up wi-fi connection. Pretty interesting that windows even gives me the signal quality too for the 3G connection

...

Simpler options:
1)Installer just for PC:_ Remove stick/Uninstall Cell C/Reboot/run the setup.exe/Plug stick back in.
http://www.mediafire.com/?xvf91lf0fbt9fcy

2)Installer to Stick: - Will overwrite the original Dash on the stick & replace it with the modded one.
