Cell C Network Issues: Disconnects, Coverage, Throughput Problems - Report Here

Data throughput in Midrand has been absolutely pathetic the last couple of weeks.

Will work fine until about 8:30-9:00 in the morning and then it's terrible.

Western Cape - Cape Farms: -33.75086, 18.53661

No internet access since Monday - affecting multiple people in our area. Signal
strength showing on my wireless/3G router is usually around 43% but is now
around 16% - with an external omni-directional antenna. Shows identifying,
connecting, connected then disconnects and starts all over. Have been running
current set-up for over a year with no issues and normally great access, so as
multiple people are affected assume the issue is with Cell C tower? Getting
desperate for help now - can't hang on the phone so long and reply from website
is that it will take up to 72 hours for someone to phone me back.

I am in plumstead area cape town, there is no signal on cell c at all. No internet and no service whatsoever. Cannot make calls or even send sms. In sea point now and connection is fine. Has anyone heard why southern suburbs is down? Its really starting to annoy me. This problem has been happening since Friday. I am gonna stop all payments to these people if they don't up their game. Phone keeps suggesting I activate Roaming at extra costs. This is k@k.

I stay in Claremont and everything is fine. You can roam on Vodacoms network without getting charged any extra. You will only have edge speeds though.

Cell C has just started having issues in PE too now. No signal at all today, and yesterday I had weak signal and very slow data. I hope the situation will be resolved quickly.

One month later, still the same problem, and not one reply from CellC???

Was away for a week and had full signal and no throughput most of the time. Dunno why I selected Cell C for my tablet :-(

Is anyone else experiencing problems with CellC today? I keep getting: "ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved", on my phone with the CellC symbol on the top right, in the browser.

Normally if I have problems I just get the error: "Could not connect to data server", which will be a popup on my phone and not in the browser.

I am struggling with Cell C in Faerie Glen for the past 2 days - only getting EDGE signal - used to be HSDPA with no problems . Anybody else in the area having problems with Cell C?

I really like Cell C, but I haven't used my phone throughout the festives. If it's not a throughput problem, it's a disconnect issue. I hardly make any voice calls so I'm guessing this is a data network issue. Please Cell C do something & fast.

Hi,

I've been on 8ta and MTN for the past two years (same location) with none of the following problems experienced since switching to Cell C a week ago:
(1) Outgoing email (I use gmail via Outlook) from my desktop application produces a time-out/interruption error if the attachment is > ~500kb. Attempting re-send for 5-10 times might get the mail sent, but no hope if the attachment is in the 1+MB size range.
(2) Hamachi VPN connections (third party software similar to OpenVPN) are only available as low-bandwidth relayed links (as soon as I plug in my MTN of 8ta SIM, these changes to direct high-bandwidth links). Also, terminal sessions frequently time-out and have to be restarted - once again not a problem I have ever experienced with MTN/8ta.

And now for some contract/topup issues:
Just signed a 12-month 5GB+15GB contract and already starting to regret it - especially considering the ludicrous top-up mechanisms available once your bundle has been depleted:
1. Call Cell C Helpdesk (i.e. remove sim from modem and insert into phone, unless you have lots of airtime to burn on your Vod/MTN/.. account, dial 140 and have some coffee)
2. Use handy-spare alternate internet connection to access internet banking to purchase airtime, remove simcard from modem, take a nap, insert into cellphone, dial *147#, follow the handy 15-stage USSD prompts, convert airtime to data, remove SIM from phone, insert SIM into modem, exhale

Why not give access to the www.cellc.co.za when bundles are depleted? Why not provide access to direct bundle/airtime purchases (e.g. credit card)? 8ta does this and it works like a charm!

Please help!

Thanks,
Jacques van Wyk

I have signal here in Pinelands, Cape Town, but data speeds are so slow as to be pretty much unusable. Pathetic. My Afrihost/MTN combo is flying, but CellC is non-existent. What's up CellC?

No internet connectivity today. Anyone else experiencing this? Regret signing with cellc

To anyone thinking of signing a contract with CellC for 3G Internet, DON'T!!! The connection is slow and unreliable. Sometimes I have to run a continuous ping to just stay connected. The farce is that their service desk will go with you through the normal steps changing settings on your speedstick, while you full well know that their is nothing wrong with your pc or the speedstick. They will then call you later and tell you that they are going to upgrade the system in your area (in my case after 20 September 2013) and then you will have no problems thereafter. The truth is it is not just in your area...IT IS COUNTRY WIDE!!! I have been in other provinces and it is just as bad as in Centurion, where I live. What a joke!! Can't wait to get rid of them. Only 6 months to go.

^ +1 My experience of Cell C 3G Internet is similar. Up. Down. On. Off. Fast. Slow. It's pot-luck what you get from one minute to the next. Browsing. Disconnect. No internet. Back. Gone. Fast. Slow. Gone.

Around Cavendish Square, Cape Town - Grove Avenue - 3G reception has become pretty erratic too.
