Cell C Network Issues: Disconnects, Coverage, Throughput Problems - Report Here

Too long? The app that I have on my phone has a shorter CID code thingy.
Not a cell phone expert, but I don't think there is a set format, for example looking back through the logs in Llama I see there was an earlier connection to a CID of 51627. I see the same reported CID in more than one app and its also what my colleague is seeing on his phone.

Llama is an app that changes phone profiles automatically based on the area (using the cell id) you are in. So as soon as you arrive at work it turns on wifi, or if it knows you are at home and its late at night it can put SMS on silent so the spam doesn't wake you up but you can still get emergency calls from family. Very nerdy but very cool.

Looks like the station has finally been fixed because both of us can now make and receive calls. I'd love to know what was down on the tower.

Ya, too long, and we haven't seen Cell-C cell IDs with a last digit of 0. Normally it is 1, 2, or 3 for 900MHz or 4, 5, 6 for 2100MHz.

My guess is the app is incorrectly reporting the RNC ID and cell ID as one long decimal number.

So let's take 6766480, convert it to hexadecimal: 0x673F90
Then take the upper 16 bits as the RNC ID: 0x67 or 103 in decimal.
Then take the lower 16 bits as the celll ID: 0x3F90 or 16272 in decimal.

According to the data available at ATC, tower 1627 is at Randjiespark, Midrand. Does this sound right?
The last digit 2 means its the South-East facing 900MHz cell.

Anyone in the Boksburg area having issues this morning? Download speeds stay at 0 :( Even UMTS fails sometimes. Sent a PM.

Been having issues in Boksburg and Kempton for over 2 months now. On both phone and modem. Connection is established but no data flows and if it flows it is insanely slow. Was getting an average ping of over 15 seconds! Phone jumps between 3G and H all the time with just the upload arrow lighting up. Then I get about 10 seoncds of data pulling down before it stops again for an hour.

Phone is an HTC Desire S. Modem is ZTE MF190.

Hi, I called the call centre regarding the weird interference the cell c sim has on radio devices and now my new phone's lcd.

It gts feedback on the screen in a similiar way SABC transmits when there is interference i.e lines over the screen. I've also noticed that when I use any phone with the RBM sim close to a radio it interfere's heavily. This does not happen with vodacom, 8ta or MTN in the same phone under the same conditions.

With regards to the screen: It stops as soon as I switch off the data signal.

The call centre consultant said I should do a sim swop as that is the only likely cause. Would I be reimbursed if it still happens even after I forked out R120 for a sim swop? Is it at all possible for such behaviour from a faulty sim?

Please assist as it is quite frustrating not being able to use my brand new phone.

Is anyone actually getting any joy from PMing the cell c rep or posting in this thread? I had to send a second PM to Cell_C and later had to PM him again to try and find out whether he got the PM. I finally got a response from the Cell C rep a few days later with the TT number. Since then nothing. No mail, pm, sms, update, NOTHING. Seems like CellC is not interested in customer service. Using their website to contact them only leads to more silence. FAIL.

I was hoping CellC would give me reason to stay with them, not the case. :(

/End of rant

EDIT: just for the record Im still having issues with my modem showing that it is connected but incoming data (download) stays at 0kbps

Three times this week, today most recently, I've had the green light of death with barely any throughput at all. Speeds have also been rather slow at times.

As of June 16, this issue still occurs. I usually have some joy when I close the connection manager and restart it, or unplug the speed stick and plug in back in, and then reopen the connection manager. Then I have a 3G signal for about 30 - 45 minutes before it switches to EDGE.

Since Monday evening (18/06/2012) I've not had a steady connection. Modem light is blue/light blue, but no data comes through. MDMA and Cell C Connector software show that it's on "HSUPA" all the time - no WCDMA or HSDPA. Occassionally, I can connect for 5mins, but then it's lost again. Signal strength is a constant -69dBm.

The tower in question is AGAIN 14443 in Malvern East/Wychood. I'm currently only able to connect using EDGE via tower 61444.

I have reported this to Cell C, and have the following reference number: 2061903378.

At the moment (14:33 20/6/2012) I still have no 3G/HSDPA/WCDMA connection, only HSUPA! I had to post this using EDGE (fail).

I am also having a problem in the Oriel, Bedfordview area. The connectivity was good but after 19/6 I have not been able to connect my Cell C prepaid data card (2 GB per mnth). I bought the same card and computer to Sandton to work and it worked here, so I assume that it is a Cell C problem. Has anyone else had this problem? I did inform Cell C but they indicated they did not have problems. I have also emailed them.

I live up the road from you, and have had hell with this, too. Nothing wrong on Cell C's side (obviously), and I'm yet to get a response regarding my ticket. After trying all day (and everyday since Monday) I managed to get on for about an hour, and then the connection just froze again. Tower in question is yet AGAIN 14443!

PLEASE FIX THE PROBLEM!

For the last week I have had awful connection to Cell C. I connect at 100% signal strength to HSPA+ and when I can connect to websites it works brilliantly. But I keep getting timeout errors to the point that Cell C is now an unusable solution for me!
I live in Northwold, Randburg.
