Cell C Speed Test Results

YES! And apparently WebAfrica don't give a hoot about it either. I have cancelled my service and am awaiting confirmation from them that this will terminate on 1 October and not 1 November as per their unacceptable 1 month notice period without pro rata.

There is no way I am going to pay for another month of this absolute joke of an internet service. I've half a mind to demand my money back for this current month. Every afternoon at around 4pm the service does what you see in the speedtest and it stays like that until I go to bed. Can't watch Netflix (in the HD res I pay for), can't even surf the net. Disappointment doesn't even begin to describe my experience, considering that when I signed up 3 months ago I was getting averages of over 15Mbps at any time of day.

I have the same problem from about 4pm untill I go to bed late at night.
 
I think it would be helpful if we all indicate what area we are in to see where most of the problems are e.g. I would like to know if there are others in my area Boston Bellville with the same problems.

A technician came a few days later and all he did was to test the speed.
He said a technician would contact me.
I heard nothing for about 3 weeks.
Later a lady phoned from CellC to ask if my situation had improved. I said NO.
She said a tech should already have contacted me, but he would very shortly.
About 3 weeks later I have heard NOTHING.

Is there not an independant body that customers can contact with severe service/sales issues?

I feel really very helpless. What can a little customer do to tackle a huge corporation? NOTHING. Like farting against thunder!

That's why they treat customers with utter disdain!
 
What we can do is post more awareness threads like this one and let people know that Cell C and its resellers are not worth doing business with.

FYI, I am high on the Durban Berea, in a full coverage area as indicated by their map.

I have cancelled CellC and gone over to Telkom.

The speeds are fantastic.
 
Been deliberating whether to change from RAIN to CellC when the double-data offer expires in November. My closest CellC transmitter is only 500 odd metres distant

Bought a SIM and R200 data/airtime to test. It took 8 or 9 phone calls to Cell C (the supposed Data help line is not a data help line and the staff are clueless) to just find out the mobile number so I could buy airtime

Then it would not connect. Spoke to 5 different people. 4 said the router (Huawei B618S-22D) would "never work" and I would have to buy one of theirs. The 5th said it would work, but did not know how to activate it

Next day a further 90 mins on the phone and it is working. Initial speed on a Tuesday afternoon is 12.25 mbps down. However, it seemed to stop around 7.00pm and gave 3.35 mbps. The next few days it varies between 2.25 mbps and 11.06 mbps. Not great but good enough for Netflix, just

I have an external antenna and aimed it towards the transmitter which is 530m away

The appalling part is speaking to Customer Service. Many of them did not know what a router is. Yet they work there and pretend to be data specialists. One put me through to sales, just to get rid of me

In Joburg with LTE-A coverage. LTE-A, which according to Cell C's own website, should give me up to 100Mbps. Pathetic.

If anyone is looking to sign up to Cell C Home Fixed Wireless packages through Axxess/Afrihost,...DON'T! Pathetic speeds and that is when you actually have a connection. My connection drops AT LEAST once an hour and can take up to 10 minutes to reestablish. From what I have seen on these forums, I am not the only one. People in CT and Durbs are having same issues for months now. Cell C's packages are cheap for a reason. Cheap prices for a cheap network.

I was amazed at my new CellC sim LTE Speeds when I received it. But then this happened today. See photos of my screen.
Is this normal at CellC?
I moved from Telkom 60Gig @ R599 a month to Cell C 50Gig @ R350 a month. But maybe it was a bad move?
