Cell C Speed Test Results

Mr Porsche user:

Have you changed any of the modem configuration to get this throughput? How far away from your CellC transmitter are you? I have a 14db aerial aimed at a transmitter 750m away and the fastest I've been able to get is 3.4mb/sec (with an E1820 modem plugged into a 3G router)

I bought a 5m USB ext cable to so I can expose by stick in a better location but it doesn't work. Not enough power apparently.
Will it work if I use more than 1 usb port?

Should do.

Also, different brands of USB extension cables give different results... they're NOT the same, take it from me. Been there, done that.

A powered USB hub should also work, YMMV.

I am +/- 900m from the base station.
Have you tested your speeds using your modem directly (i.e. without the router) ? ? ?

Location: Midrand, Central
Download 0.24Mbps ; Ping 261 ms (Midrand Server FFS !!)

Use MDMA to force it to connect as Edge, then 3G and then Automatic.

When I connect as Edge I get 61db and Automatic 93db.

I can see Little Falls and Clearwater from my house.

Day before yesterday I connected to Little Falls at 1,8 Mb/s.

Yesterday it connected to Clearwater tower and I was getting download speeds around 8mb/s at best. But it was still erratic, got disconnected a few times. I ordered a powered USB hub because I use a 3m USB and will then see what the results are.

Will post my results during the weeekend.

Previously when i had signal of around -93 it wouldn't hold connection or speed very well,i'm guessing that the modem light is blue & your speeds are better when on this one?
With MDMA set it on "3G only" to lock it but then you need to get the -93 figure lower.
Another thing to try with MDMA is the "band config" button - try checking/unchecking 900/2100 to see if you have both or if it maybe works better on one or the other.
-93dBm ain't going to work very well you may need to look at a external ariel if you can't improve it
