CellC cancellation

Cellc used to be cool. Now they are tricking and trapping clients. even the cellc sales people confirm this as it is affecting them and they are tired of dealing with unhappy clients and losing business. i'm hoping cell c will see this and let me out of my sim-only contract that was sold to me under false pretenses. i was assured that i could cancel any time, the sales people agree, but now they won't let me out without paying a settlement! Good luck getting anything done right from cell C they love to sell their dept to collections guys and then when you settle the amount owed they politely refuse to provide any sort of statement to the effect. Cell C is KAK
 
I've been on a month to month sim only deal for a few years with Cell C. Without informing me of anything, some time last year it was cancelled by them. After numerous calls, they finally reinstated my month to month sim only deal on another deal (5gb top up), I called them to cancel it yesterday and was told that it's on a 24 month contract and not month to month so there will be a cancellation penalty to pay, the consultant said she can't help me anymore and I need to email them for any further queries regarding this. Surprisingly, they replied to my email quite quickly, this is their reply:


Thank you for contacting Cell C.


We have received your cancellation request.
Kindly note that in November 2021, Cell C changed their Terms and Condition and all month to month contracts now have a cancellation penalty fee and unfortunately the contracts can not be cancelled without the commitment amounts being paid.

Anyone else experienced this? I didn't sign anything locking me into a contract, nor was I informed of this. In fact, the reason why I was on a month to month was so that I could stop it at any time (after the 30 day cancellation period was over).
I've been with Cell C for years whilst swtiching to other SP's in between, but with them doing non client centric changes such as this, I don't think it's an SP I'll want to be with in the future

It seems I have managed to get this right, if you getting spam calls about an old account and have paid the debt already, just email the Dept collectors council and watch them scurry away. They like blaming their clients for not updating it to your anguish of spam call center calls.
 
We got a lovely surprise in the past month from Cell C. We cancelled after many attempts in April 2022. Made our April payment etc. all was good. we then moved to Canada in May, and never heard anything from Cell C, until we pulled our credit report a month or so back for the purposes of a mortgage to buy a house in Canada, only to see an unpaid bill from Cell C dating back to April. This caused a big drop on credit score. I figured it was an error and emailed Cell C in November, heard nothing, tried again this week, only to find out that the balance owing is R0,51. What's crazy is we paid by Direct Debit, there should never have been any outstanding money from a Direct Deposit.

So here we sit, to do an EFT of 51c, but our Credit Score is beyond repair after 9 months of an outstanding account, and our desire to buy a home has to wait 15 more months, so we no longer have to Produce a SA credit report.

Thanks Cell C, even 16,000km, you still keep thinking about me.
