Census 2022 - Problem with self registration

It is compulsory for every person to be counted and the Statistics Act imposes a R10 000 fine or a six-month prison sentence on anyone who refuses.
With the ability to register online and complete something, as opposed to them coming to your house, how would anyone know you didn't participate?

I tried to register last week, some of the drop down fields were missing so couldn't complete. Tried a few times same thing. Finally registered on Tuesday, keep note of any references they give you, some of the data in the mail they sent was cut off. Also easier than standing talking to someone at the gate I thought.

Don't ever underestimate the value of Census Data. I have been working with it for years as an end user, and many Government and Private entities use this info for their strategic planning.

The more up-to-date and accurate it is the better for everyone.

This incompetent lot will pay thousands from our taxes to knock on our door, and the paperwork will end up where the 16000 submissions against the smoking ban went - in the bin.

I have a dark space where they can stick their census form.

I'll probably do the self-enumeration thing just so that I don't get hassled by fieldworkers...

Be interesting to see what questions get asked to be honest.

They can't even get us to pay our tv licenses and eTolls, how serious can the fines be?

So I see this starts on Feb the 3rd (next week Thursday and runs until March (although when in March is not exactly specified). Think the last one was in 2011 if memory serves.

Torn as to whether to participate...

Literally on that page:
Stats SA has conducted three censuses since 1994: in 1996, 2001 and 2011

Do people bother with search anymore?

Oh I didn't see this.

Mods, threads can be merged...

When you register you identify your house on the map. The fieldworkers use tablets so it will be indicated that they don’t have to contact that house.

Better I tell them my secret password. I do hope they come in

Interesting.
Worked for me.
Had to wait for about 45 seconds for the email OTP.

Was tempted to click "send again" - but I realised I would find myself little more than a hamster in a wheel stuck in a time warp
