cheap printer

Avoid ink tanks like the plague. Had 2, lasted about 1 yr each and got blocked constantly. Had to clean the system almost every print. Then you refill ink tanks and one of them just randomly decides not to push ink out...
worst thing ever made. Stick to cartridge Inkjet or Laserjet.

I have a ink tank.
It's brilliant.
Turned 4 this month.
Very light on ink.
No problems whatsoever.
But it is going to need a service of sorts soon.

I'll never buy anything else

Sorry, what is maintenance box?
might not be for that printer

"The maintenance box stores surplus ink that gets collected during printing or print head cleaning. When you see a message on the LCD screen, follow the on-screen instructions to replace the maintenance box. Note: When the maintenance box is full, you cannot print or clean the print head until it is replaced."
canon the same (depends on the printer)

takes a lot of prints before they fail

Bubbles are bad assuming that is what the issue may of been so air is trapped much like filling coolant in a car just messy to bleed.

You ever had laser toner crap and cough everything everywhere... yeah no thanks that and what was it last time R1800 a tonner

Yeah i usually just buy the toner, open the printer, slide old one out and slide new one in. I also found its best to stick to original ones to avoid messes.
But now i have a Canon Inkjet at home and i just buy the multi-pack Canon cartridges.

Is there a printer you'd recommend? I do around 50 copies/month but my Canon Pixma eats up ink cartridges and needs to be replaced. Can be black and white. With a scanner. TIA!

I've owned a few printers over the years.
The only printers I've had that were rock solid were B&W laser printers.
Highly recommend those over inkjets.

Ink has all kinds of issues, temperature, humidity, how long since it was last used, etc.
Laser printer just keeps churning out pages.

I just pay a place when I need colour copies (or use the office) which is basically never.

Brother DCP-1610W Multifunction Black and White Laser Printer with WiFi

Bought this takealot last year R3000, just keeps on going!

The reason why I bought is that the toner is only R109!

Got the same one, pretty happy with it so far. Cheap toner options exist and the drum can be replaced separate from the toner.

Bought an Epson L1250 ecotank from Makro. Happy so far. It may be years before we replace ink. Much faster and a bit quieter than the Canon we had.

For the love of sanity please don't buy Pantum printers.

I'm late to the party.

I have an HP Photosmart Wireless e-All-in-one B110 series colour inkjet printer going free to someone who needs it. Courier cost is for your account. I bought it a few years ago when I was in a squeeze with needing a printer but it has hardly worked, printed maybe 200 pages if that. Has all the cables, disks, manual and original packaging.

Also a Canon MG5240 colour inkjet printer with everything except the original packaging. Free to someone who needs it. Further, same conditions as above. This one has worked a bit more. Still works well when last used around 4 months ago.

I have just replaced my Samsung ML-2955ND (non-wireless) B+W laser printer with a Brother wifi model that will be delivered later this week. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this printer, it just doesn't have wifi and this I now need. Price is R1500 plus courier costs.

I'm prepared to take them all, but you must have them serviced. And pay the courier fees. And have my name and number lasered onto all of them for security.

And believe me, I'm losing on this. But I'm prepared to do it for you.

That is a very generous offer, seriously. But, um, no.

Epson ink tank printers are good, except for the fact that they don't sell printhead replacements. The print head is that one part of an inkjet printer that is bound to go bad at some point or get clogged if you don't use the printer regularly. So if your Epson printhead stops working you may as well replace the whole printer. Bad bad!! In that case you'd be better off sticking to a cartridge system where each cartridge has its own printhead nozzle/electronics
