Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

I understand that if you buy a 2GB bundle on contract and download 10GB you need to pay, because it is YOUR Screwup

But what happens If it's the ISP who screws up? Like say you buy a 2GB Prepaid bundle and you get 10GB? are you liable?

We've had this discussion, please stay on topic.

you were just giving your opinion, I need a straight answer on liability, not about moral issues.

Then ask the question in the thread where it all started, but what you probably want is a lawyer.

Not exactly the same scenario, but might shed a little bit of light on the situation. Back in 2007 I think it was, there was a issue with data billing during december. The billing went in favour of the client and they were charged less than what they were supposed to have been charged. This error was corrected and the amount was raised in the next billing run, and the clients affected were notified via SMS and we apologized for the error.

So in short, provided that it was a honest mistake and the client was charged to little, then yes, you would be liable for that usage on your contract. As far as I know, even though the data billing on contract is delayed...there has not been a billing error on mass again since then.

PS: Keeper, what have you done to Python? (referring to your sig) ..... no harm must come to that man! Warning you!! :-)

Let's just say I got him taken "care of" if you know what I mean...

My Boys showed him the fishes, and he is now sleeping with one of them...heh..

He took 1 step too far with me, so I gave his mybb account to a kid in the congo. no, that kid doesn't have a PC.

hehe, just kidding - nothing to do with me.....

But OC, the question is CAN a person be Liable for *prepaid* usage? that's all I want to know.

I will be watching you closely! No one touches LangSlang and gets away with it!! hehe

On prepaid it is a bit more grey. On contract VSP can raise the shortfall and correct the error. With preapaid, there is no way for VSP to collect that money from you...as far as I know anyway. Unless they deduct it at a later stage from your IN account once you have recharged again, but I am not sure if that is even possible with the prepaid billing platform.

NB: THE ABOVE COMMENT IS IN NO WAY TO BE TAKEN AS A OFFICIAL STATEMENT OR COMMENT FROM VODACOM, VODACOM SERVICE PROVIDER COMPANY, ANY OF ITS AFFILIATES OR EMPLOYEES! SHOULD THIS BE USED AS EVIDENCE IN A COURT OF LAW, OC SHALL TOTAL AND COMPLETE DENIABILITY!

I'm sure I've read here about people ending up with negative balances on their pre-paid SIM cards. The advice given has always been 'throw the SIM away'. Not sure how RICA will change that, will your negative balance be transferred over if you RICA a new SIM in your name?

The last time I saw a negative balance was on my personal prepaid when I was in school still. I was playing who wants to be a millionare (who remembers that?! lol). I went a bit over board and ended up with a negative balance of about R50.00. The next time I recharged, it was deducted from the recharge amount.

Nowadays the prepaid system updates very fast. When you downloading a large file you can litteraly see your megs ticking off on the vodacom website. When you hit zero your download stalls (dont you just hate it when that happens and your download is sitting on 99.9%??? lol) But even if you do manage to go into a neg balance somehow, then if you buy a prepaid sim, then no, I do not thing that neg balance will be taken over by the new prepaid number. Not yet anyway. Not sure if Vodacom has plans to implement such a plan. I doubt it. A neg balance will definately be the exception and not the rule.

Any idea as to how big an investor they are?

I'm hoping for better deals on data, my 3g connection works so well.

I honestly do not know...but I would think it is a substantial investment. The other investors are MTN, Neotel (urg), Telkom (bigger urg) and some others I cant recall now.

Still a bit far to go. :(

The cable is expected to be completed in 2011

WACS

Neotel: South Africa's second fixed line operator
Telkom South Africa: South Africa's incumbent fixed line operator
MTN Group: A South African based regional mobile operator
Vodacom: A South African based regional mobile operator
Broadband Infraco: A South African state-owned telecom infrastructure company

Here is a little somthing that will blow your panties off! (kidding lol) but as I said in the thread....small step in the right direction :-)

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/broad...-get-one-free-Vodacom-Advanced-Broadband.html

The basics of the Vodacom Night Owl offering are as follows:

1. Buy a new Broadband Advanced MyGig 1 24-month Contract at R285 per month which also includes a free HSDPA modem
2. Get an additional 1GB of data free to use between midnight and 5am every month until December 2010

Problem is I don't want to lock myself into a costly 3g contract just to get 1gb "free" for 5 months. :(

I've had my say. Vodacom can stick their discriminatory night owl promotion. I have a 2GB adv bundle and get nothing extra. You have to be on the 1GB bundle.

I am so tired of all the gimmicks Vodacom have launched over the last few months. They have done nothing to better the value proposition since the ADSL prices have dropped. I am seriously considering voting with my wallet.

*checks if I have any hair left after being flamed again by Morkhans's flame thrower"

mmm I am a little concerned. I personally know 3 friends that have already switched over to ADSL and stopped using 3G

I know Jannie is somewhere in the background and hopefully kicking the corrects nuts at Vodacom to sort out this pricing disaster, but it needs to happen now.

it will.
I have a feeling Vodacom are working on something..... they will soon realize that gaining (or at least not losing) more of the market, will require real price drops and not gimmicks, as people are tired of them.
Perhaps even their own version of the "uncapped for a day" bundle ?

Yes...I would very much like Vodacom bring out something similar. But then it would have to be done properly. I have been meaning to take the MTN offering for a test drive...but from reading the MTN thread, it was a bit of a dissaster with the activation or something and then it does not work etc etc. I will take it for a spin when the new Ubuntu gets released later this year to download the image and see how it goes. Always good to know what the competition is up to lol
