No, definitely not. I think at the moment I need to go back and revise my options. What is the cheapest broadband (any platform) out there at the moment???

8ta 10GB + 10GB night owl (R199 + R100) = R299

But that extra 10GB is also only valid between 12h00 and 05h00, and if that does not kick in mid-torrent I'll be consumed by the OOB shark!

Ah, what I like to call a "Freshwater contract"

Secondly: This, unlike 2GB+2GB, is a 24 month contract. What are the chances of 3G prices dropping even more drastically over the next two years to an extent where R 199 for 10GB is deemed expensive?

VodacomData said not in the foreseeable future, and that was 2 years ago.

The 8ta deal is currently cheaper than capped ADSL. I don't think you are going to see much cheaper mobile broadband than the 8ta deal any time soon.

Fair enough. Then 8ta it is! Now to cancel my VC contract... (sigh) R 1350 down the drain...

Given my understanding from discussions on this forum regarding contract cancellation fees you would be an idiot to cancel (pay the full remainder of the contract but get no service entitlement). You'd probably be better off just putting in your notice in the 11th month and keeping the SIM locked away. At least if 8ta goes down you can use it for a backup.

Yes I suppose that makes sense as well... Might as well chuck the 2GB in my laptop bag and keep the 10GB at home on my Dlink... Or TPLink one of these days...

I yesterday visited Vodacom world (Vodaworld) to pick up an accessory from Samsung. It was interesting to see the changes over the years. In the past when you visited the place the Nokia store had many people waiting for service, yesterday no one!

When Vodaworld opened you had stores for the following manufactures:
1. Siemens - No gone
2. Philips - No Gone
3. Motorola - No Gone

The reason why these companies disappeared is because they lost relevance, like what is now happening with Nokia. Samsung and LG is now the big guys in Vodaworld with the high end Apple most prominently near the entrance. In a few years (or months) we may see Huawei and ZTE also opening stores, perhaps when Nokia starts reducing its rental size or even closing shop.

The above synopsis can very easily be true for the Cellular industry. If Vodacom does not start to give what the public wants at the prices the public wants to pay, they will disappear like Siemens, Motorola, Philips from the store. The new entrants namely 8TA and CellC (like Apple, Samsung, LG, Huawei and ZTE) is changing the market and if the dinosaurs don't evolve they will become extinct.

So lets see if Vodacom is the last of the dinosaurs or whether it will be able to evolve to something better.

Vodacom still got at least 5 years until they start seeing their turnover shrink due to high prices. Right now they still got people who are locked into contracts but their days are numbered, all the smart/tech savvy people realised how they've been ripped off over the years.

I've got a suspicion that Vodacom is not interested in the home user anymore, it's all about business now.

*Just look at the ad at the top of the MyBB page & you'll know what I mean.

Yes, close the thread because Vodacom have slashed prices so dramatically... look at how well that thread is going :-/
