Compatibility Issues with Huawei E220 USB Modem

Ok. Although this is another workaround that works, what is Vodafone doing to better the product in terms of it being Plug and Play??? Our customers are buying our product under the impression that it is plug and play, which it is(in most cases), but what about the customers with this problem? And/Or the customers who completely computer illiterate?

And i agree, its got nothing nothing to do with the Dashboard of either HMP or VMCLite(it seems my posts are being interpreted that i am saying its the software). What i said was that upon doing the lastest Huawei upgrade(with every customer i had sofar with this problem), it solved it.

So somehow with the upgrade of the Dash for HMP, something else is upgraded too. I have noticed though, in the folder of where the upgrade file is, when you do the upgrade, it generates a file called "firmware" while it upgrades the Dash. Maybe this is related? I dont know.

@Iam3g. Next time before you do an upgrade you should check the Firmware version first then do the dash upgrade & check the Firmware version again. Let us know.

Who ever at VC, that interfaces with Huawei should suggest that they unmount the cdrom drive once the dash is started. The dashboard that the AMOI usb modem uses does this. You dont need the software on the emulated cdrom once it has been installed.:)

I did. The firmware version number stays the same(too tired to recall the number, the one on the Vodacom Website for Vista), but i suspect it alters the firmware somehow?

Whatever happens during that upgrade, it seems to work(for me at least).

@Iam3g.
This is the HMP software your are installing, right. I remember now that when I installed the software the first time I actually saw the message that it was also updating the firmware. I mentioned it hear on the forum. ginggs indicated that it was dash software only. Next time you do it you must take a much closer look at what is displayed on the screen. I am sure you will see there is a firmware update done.
Well keep an closer eye on it and let us know.D

Hey @v3g, you can add Sony Ericsson PC Suite 1.3.19 to your list as well. First time install with VMC Lite 2.2.2.1 (Firmware 11.110.05.00.00). The device would not appear so the autorun could not fire. I closed my PC Suite & M-router tray icons and reattached and it popped up. I suspect it might have to do with the M-router component.

This was produced on Vista Business Edition.

E220 Modem New Stock From Vsp

I am just now installing a E220 modem for a customer on a Compaq Evo N800v Notebook. +- 5 years old. At first the NB would not detect the modem, I tried both ports still no luck & my 6th sense said why not use the long cable with 2 connectors and Bingo it worked. The software that comes with the E220 new stock is, here it comes VMC-lite version 2.2.2.1. I think there is something wrong the software is installing over & over etc. I will shutdown and restart. Back later.

There aint nothing with that Software. There's something wrong with that "old" laptop...

Ask first then complain later

Why when doing a new installation of VMC-Lite 2.2.2.1 Auto Install after doing the drivers install etc does the install window still indicate installing software. The install software has now been done at least 6 times and is still going strong. How long do I have to wait for this cycle to complete. Does anybody know?
Many thanks in advance.

Like i said, its not the software, and i know what you are refering to. What usually happens is that the installation starts, then comes the drivers installation, then after that the "Installing Software" bar still keeps going. Its goes away as soon as the dashboard Autoruns. Which should have happened in your case.

What i did notice with the installation is that when the drivers start to install, the CD-ROM dissapears yet the "Installing Software" still keeps on going. I have had cases where that happens, then the device doesnt appear again, and the software keeps on installing like with you now. Thats's the only reason i can think of right now.

Remove everything again and re-install. After the drivers have installed, check "My Computer" to see if its appeared again. If it has, do a Manual Autorun.

I have seen that once as well on Vista. After it repeated about 3 times I just rebooted and everything worked. Actually the progress bar is just an exe. Check out: C:\Program Files\Vodafone\VMCLite\installprogress.exe

I suspect the installer looses track and forgets to kill the progress bar.

Just curious to know if you came right Csnoopy? I found out what causes it... And how to fix it.

Yes I did. Like we all do, reboot and it works. I eventually replaced it with latest HMC, like we all do.

@Iam3g, what did U find the cause to be???? will be good to know.

You mos know how the workaround worked? Where you needed to manually install the "USB Composite Device" in order for the Data Interfaces to install?

Now what happens is that during the installation where it shoudl automatically install the "USB Composite Device", it doesnt(dont know the cause of that yet).

SO what i had to do is just go to Device Manager and do it manually again, then it worked. The drivers started installing, the progress bar went away, and the App started. Was not needed to upgrade to HMC or HMP

I would like to know though what could prevent the "USB Composite Device" from installing. How would one determine that?

I just don't like VMC-lite anyway. Also you can not select the type of connection you want, 3G only etc. If you are in an area where there is bad 3G/hsdpa then the type hops around & causes intermittent disconnects.

I will also investigate & see if I can find something.

Thanks for that.
