Was a Cape Town upstream issue. Waiting on a report as to what happened.

Hi PBCool,

How long does it normally take to get the VOIP phone - I ordered mine online precisely a week ago and paid, and it showed that the the service is active, but I have not received the device? Do I have to come and collect it myself, or how long does it normally take to courier as 7 days feels a bit long? I logged a ticket to follow up yesterday early morning, but have not received any feedback yet.

Regards
PM me your ticket and I'll check for you.

@PBCool I refer you to my thread: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/918794-Metrofibre

Specifically the following(post #23 in that thread):

I tried signing up directly with CISP now.

Firstly, on the provider selection page, they don't have an option for Metro Fibre in Pretoria, only Johannesburg. I went with that, not sure if that would be a problem.

Second issue was them asking for my banking details and accepting T's and C's for a debit order, before they've done a fukin thing, so I don't feel comfortable with that as I have no idea what/when they will debit me for the first time, i.e. if it's installation costs etc. I will need to be prepared for it as well.

Would it be possible for you to get fibre into my home via Metrofibre, without me actually having to do the 3 months with them first? It seems like a sure thing that they'll terminate our entire complex. Also, can it be done before I accept any debit order requests?

Unfortunately the 3 months exclusivity thing is signed off for by the complex residents association, so we have no way of bypassing that.

Can't wait for Vumatel to roll out in Protea Heights so I can sign up with you guys. Been hearing only great things.

Heres my experience so far.

1. Ordered 10/10 under SADV on the 20/10/17
2. SADV phoned for install of ONT on friday 27/10/17 (Date of call 24/10/17)

So far happy as can be. @PBCool will i be able to come pick up the router from your offices on friday after the install? And hopefully be up and running friday night? Or will i get an email stating when its ready?

You can come collect sure.

So, tomorrow is D-day (And Pay day, :D ) and Vumatel are set to start installation of the fibre into my property at 8:30am. I'm hoping by the end of the day, I will be online. So far, the service from Cool ideas has been great!

Great glad to hear it :)

@PBCool After a failed temp fix to my fibre line last night, Vuma now has to completely reinstall my line.

Do you have any experience with this happening with anybody else? Also, any idea of how long I can expect them to take to schedule it?

I am not very optimistic about their service levels at this moment.

Is it trenched or aerial?

@PBCool - any word on those Openserve data price drops?

I believe the prices were dropped slightly at the beginning of September? A tiny drop in IPC doesn't have a major impact on final price, which is why most providers would rather up their IPC capacity at the same spend instead of pass on the discount to the customer.

Trenched, but I am talking about the fibre inside my property. from the wall box.

No I'm aware :), it really depends on how they installed. The older installs have a sleeve which they can just pull a new core through, but in the newer installs it's a ruggedised lead which they would need to replace completely, if it's in a conduit it should be pretty easy. The trenched teams have a much simpler job than on PON so can often get it done much quicker.

Ah ok. For mine I have extra cable in the roof, and it would be one of the older installs, as I have conduit pipes which the fibre runs through, one piece of the conduit pipe is broken however, and seems to have damaged the fibre than ran inside it, which broke the actual fibre strand in half. Don't think replacing the conduit pipe will be major.

Just hope they schedule to fix my fibre soon, as right now it looks like it will take weeks before they schedule anything with me :(

@PBCool, our area was setup with Fibrehoods, I see they got bought out by Vumatel, and you guys no longer have offerings for Fibrehoods, what package options do I have available now?

Thanks PB, I've sent you a PM with my details.

I brought up an issue over a week ago and still no response.
This is the WORST support I have ever received from ANY ISP, bar none.

What the hell is going on?
Are you guys operating out of a garage?

I have yet to receive ANY response from ANYONE at your so called support desk.
Now I have to take time out of my work day and log into this forum to chase up something which I am paying for.

I've even convinced my neighbour to go with Cool ideas instead of Vox.

Can somebody please do what I pay you guys for!

@PBCool So vuma cannot fix my line in the hours I am at home, and I don't have leave to put in for the hours they work (Vumatel and Telkom starting to look exactly the same to me when it comes to service offered)

Is there a way to suspend my account until such time I can get my line fixed, or must I cancel my order with you guys.

I am so fed up with their BS now
