CoolIdeas supplied me with TL-WR840N which is a 100Mbit router on the 100/100 plan. My 100/100 line is sadly operating at 10/5 and it took many conversations and two days to finally report this to CoolIdeas.
What's more CI insists on a screencap from a wired connection before raising the issue with Octotel. Given that most laptops now don't come with ethernet I had to find an old machine to get this going. I don't think they'd accept a PS4 speed test.

So I'm not so happy with their customer support. I'm now waiting for feedback from Octotel. I suspect it will only occur in the week. Octotel is probably asleep over weekends. I will probably keep a 2Mbit ADSL line and account as backup because I don't trust faults to get sorted out quickly over weekends with Octotel.

Unfortunately we can't rely on a wireless connection to confirm the speed of the line and neither will Octotel as part of the logging process. Let me know if you need anything escalated.

Given that many people won't have wired devices and your supplied router can't do its own speed test I don't think that's very fair. What do you think?

Maybe add to your FAQ what someone who does not have a wired ethernet device should do? Buy one?
Just switch to a different provider? Not use fibre? Please, it's a serious question.

@pbcool my fiber has been down since 12:30pm and I have logged a ticket which hasn’t been looked at. This is why I don’t like the ticket system at all. Ocotel/Vredehoek. #COOL-20171028-49053
 
Is it just me or are certain sites not doing well atm with CISP? Twitter being the most prominent, but several times the last two days I've come across an entire domain where nothing works well.

Not looking for diagnostics and tickets, because if there's an issue no doubt it's being looked at. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed it.

It's definitely not common to not have a single ethernet device in a household. Or wise - if something goes wrong with your router you have no way to quickly and simply check the settings.

Easiest solution is probably to buy a USB to ethernet adapter. Apple users have been needing them for a while.

What in the heck is going on? My DNS is set to auto, I've tried rebooting my PC, accessing from mobile, rebooting the router etc. to no avail.

Yeah aware of this issue and are busy with our upstream investigating. Is limited to the Openserve network specifically.

It's not that simple unfortunately, you can have the most expensive router on the market and if there is enough wireless noise you wouldn't get the full speed of your fibre line anyway. This makes troubleshooting a nightmare if you had to rely on wireless only. Which is why a cable test is always preferred.

Not saying there haven't been scenarios where customers don't have a device that can plug ethernet into, this is pretty much always a MacBook scenario where you can get an adapter.

And in your current case as you mentioned it's a line config issue which I believe is being addressed by your line provider. But the default troubleshooting process in these situations is cable test first which almost all the time is not an issue for customers to do.

Even here on the forum when people ask for help they are always told to use a cable when diagnosing network issues and I agree 100% with that. You do get usb-ethernet adapters.

Thanks. Saw it now. Twitter is basically broken. Sometimes the non-feed parts of the site load, and sometimes even the feed loads, but images are almost always unable to load. The Fenix 2 app on my phone can load my feed but not 99% of images. The MTR to Twitter was actually the same pretty much as speedtest.net, but all the No Responses changed 3/4 through the test to addresses (previously, not right now).

I would like to add, that I'm seeing the same results as Bryn. I've reported it in a ticket.

VPN connection fixes all the issues. Changing DNS has no effect.
 
You also need to tell people to connect during office hours. I actuated on Vumatel @2pm today. Over 5h later I'm still not active

That is a provisioning error on Vumatels side then, it doesn't happen very often. Glad to hear you're up :)

Thanks. Saw it now. Twitter is basically broken. Sometimes the non-feed parts of the site load, and sometimes even the feed loads, but images are almost always unable to load. The Fenix 2 app on my phone can load my feed but not 99% of images. The MTR to Twitter was actually the same pretty much as speedtest.net, but all the No Responses changed 3/4 through the test to addresses (previously, not right now).

Yeah something weird on the IPC network, your outbound route should always be the same based on your location but its switching between JHB and CPT.
 
@PBCool thanks for all your assistance over the last week, and helping organising for VUMA to come and reinstall my line on Saturday.

The guys that came out was extremely professional and did a much better job than the first install.
