I hope you're well.

I'm exhausting every possible option (phone/e-mail/social media) to try get Vumatel to actually fix my problem but was wondering if you could perhaps give me an update from your side:

It seems that I'm not the only one with this issue as per other posts on Twitter.

Hey everyone. I am looking at changing over from Afrihost and am looking at Cool Ideas. For the price they look real good! I have noticed in the last couple of pages the Wilgeheuwel Vumetal aerial might be the contributing factor to the crappy service I have received lately through Afrihost. Is there anyone in the Wilgeheuwel area that can give me their feedback on how Cool Ideas has been running on Vumatel Aerial? Thanks in advance.
 
Net just went down in Port Elizabeth, OpenServe.

Strangely enough, the ONT router shows internet connectivity, just the router that’s stuck on red.

Anyone else affected in PE? Nothing on announcements page.

There’s an announcement on the announcements page mentioning a fault in Athol. Think you’ll just need to wait it out unfortunately.

I don't think there's an option on their recorded answering machine to be put through to connect. You have to speak to someone else and if necessary they transfer you......just so you know :)
 
@PBCool please can I ask what is up with pings to EU?

I have trenched frogfoot 100/100 fibre. CPT area

Currently playing PoE. Pings to EU are normally ~150ms. Last few nights, ping ingame is 250ms+ and it fluctuates all the way up to 750ms at times.
I actually get a better ping to Washington DC USA server at 211ms ingame.

I have the same package + fibre network, it's not CISP related, it seems to be on PoE's side.
I'm assuming you're playing on the London server?

The reason I'm saying this is that you can see the pings fluctuate and go down or up and stay consistent when you move between areas, which means the high latency is instance relative - it seems to have started with the release of the new league - some areas are 150ms, some are 250ms, total dice roll depending on the instance you get.

Friends of mine are experiencing the same on Vox and Afrihost on Openserve.

I play Amsterdam mostly, since London (even though it has the lowest EU ping option) just is meh for me when playing on it.

My problem is that everyone else in my guild/ TS has no ping problems to EU servers. Those with fibre connections are still getting 150ms ping. But they arent with CISP, which is why I am querying it here.
 
Sounds like some of the traffic is routing through the Angola cables path, which means those 250ms packats, the return traffic is going through the USA.

@smokemaryjane - do a traceroute to the server on 150ms and then again to the server when its 250ms. I assume the IP addresses change when moving between areas.

250ms just sounds like the packets route through the USA instead of London direct.

I just chatted to someone with access to the Openserv systems and there is a massive outage, entire EL node is isolated and a bunch of PE nodes too. Suspected cable damage/theft. It could take some time to get this one fixed.

For those asking about PoE.

I've been sending @PBCool IPs for PoE as I connect to them as right now they are routing via the US over to london, instead of directly to london. Which is why you are seeing the 200+ms.

Since every time you switch areas you get a new instance/IP so trying to get them all has been annoying.

He has already manually changed some to go back directly to london but most are still going via Angola cable.

I wonder how something like this happens in the first place. Surely routing protocols should automatically determine shortest/lowest cost path? :unsure:

Thanks for this. So basically its a tough cookies situation until all routing is fixed. Sigh.

Why does this even happen. Cant shortest routes, stay shortest routes. Why break something that was working.

Edit: When CISP changed something on their side suddenly I could stream a 32gb RD link during peak hours. Now I can’t even stream a 1gb file without buffering.

Have you tested with reputable paid for VPN service. That would be the easiest way to alter routing to the sources without having to wait for CISP to possible alter it locally on their network.

It would at least give some sort of indication where the issue might be and it is something you could test quite easily using expressvpn or privateinternetaccess or any other reputable/reliable vpn provider.
