Getting really shitty latency spikes in Diablo - EUW.

Vumatel / CISP / 200 / 200.

Welcome to the club. Been having these issues since last week.

Ok so to read through a 700 page thread isn't gonna happen.

I'm looking at getting the R499 10down 5up package with Cool Ideas on Open Serve in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town area. What is everyone's experience with Cool Ideas and Open serve in general?

I am with Openserve Northern Suburbs Cape Town. Since last week been having latency issues to any EU server. Then for the normal 7-11 slow internet that most people experience well i have that as other. Otherwise no issues. (tried other ISP for the 7-11 slowness issue happens on other ISP as well)

Hi guys

For the past few weeks I have been noticing high latency on my 20Mbps (OpenServe) connection. I can't stream video properly and use stuff like Imgur and DSTV Now etc. Something has definitely changed on Cool Ideas' network in the past month that has had a crippling effect on my connection. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yea this sudden high latency thing that started happening since last week is not fun. Agree that something had to change somewhere.

Good Lord, this internet sucks... can't even read a UK forum.. I am off to bed... before I have nightmares of Telkom R7 infinitcall and my old 33.6k modem... Jesus Christ...

Haha, now that brings back memories downloading a big file with the infinitcall and then you get to 99.9% of downloading with no download manager (many hours later) and then the phone starts ringing and someone pick up cutting the internet off and you need to start all over again. :D

The tests were done right after each other and I can assure you I do not suffer from packetloss on my line or from my ISP. The test was done to a cool ideas ip just to check if it shows packetloss on my side and obviously it does but also shows that winmtr is not accurate. It would suggest packetlpss on my line but that is not true. Probably lost packets along tbe route. My single thread speedtest to London is ~140Mbps so if I had packetloss that speeds would have been impossible to an international destination.
I find with winmtr, the first result isn't accurate. stop it and start it again.

R7 call more time. Ah, those were my winamp days, downloading mp3's lol.

I can also confirm from my side that it doesn't appear to be CISP - but the Octotel network - unfortunately, with CISPS service, I don't see this getting resolved anytime soon.

And as for Octotel - they're just blaming the issue on to the ISPs - so they're either clueless - or actively ignoring the problem.

Perception is everything and I'm perceiving this at the moment, because these kind of things shouldn't happen on a fibre network in the first place, as bandwidth is certainly not the problem as we've been told.

@PBCool If you're back on your feet yet, please let me know if I can do any tests for you regarding the new NNI on my Frogfoot line. Twitch was a bit better last night (don't know if coincidence or not) but not quite there yet. Still buffered like crazy on 1080p. 720p60 streamed fine 90% of the time...probably buffered every 5 minutes or so.

Because we have raised it with Octotel in November they then do some investigations and come back stating they don't find anything, "please send us patterns with clients". Get a bunch of said clients to do the same tests. We enter December of which network changes are frozen on Octotels side. Come January it gets picked up again.

Thank you for this response.

So there's a strong possibility that me not being able to stream twitch from October is a different issue to the packet loss mess we have now? So if this gets fixed I might still not be able to stream twitch?

I have adjusted my expectations accordingly.

Just because the issue was only raised in Nov doesn't mean the problem didn't exist earlier? That would be my guess.

Have noticed zero difference to mine after whatever changes they made yesterday. Streaming is all still fine and performance from Europe is still very crappy.

Well back then there was no packet loss but I had abysmal throughput and obviously twitch was impossible. So I opened a ticket. Back then there was only like 2 octotel customers complaining. Myself and Joeline. PBcool said Octotel looked into it and found nothing, which is concerning.

Then all of this happened and well all hell has clearly broken loose.

I'd find it odd if the two are connected, why would we be the only two seeing the early stages of it?

Might be because I was streaming at midnight - don't know if time of day is influencing my line's performance regarding Twitch.

Maybe other customers are oblivious to it as they just use their fibre lines to read e-mails? :p

@PBCool I'm getting a very poor connection to the local Battlefield server farm with frequent disconnects. Ticket #COOL-20181214-190054

30min sample from ping plotter attached. Wired connection at 200/200. By comparison, I have rock solid connections to Euro servers, but would prefer to game locally.

Ticket still open and no resolution yet. Frequent disconnects to local Battlefield V servers and Fortnite servers, which I assume is due to packet loss or routing issues. 200/200 line on the Octotel network (Rondebosch). We were with Openserve before - more expensive - but none of these issues. I'm seriously considering going back to OpenServe.

I'm still waiting for a response on the ticket Octotel want Cool Ideas to log with them... probably going to have to ask on social media again.

The larger issue isnt being dealt with on a ticket scenario, but with the seniors at Octotel. I appreciate you trying to push the matter but there is no point in doing so.

It hasnt gone into production as yet, this is why I asked to PM me account details to do some tests :)

No we will tackle that hurdle once we resolve the underlying issue.

This is why you run an iperf rather.

@PBCool From what I am reading most people here are having issues on other networks, but my issues are all on Openserve. Twitch in the evening specifically. Is there anything happening in the background around OS performance? And will this IP ever get fixed? (195.82.50.47)

With due respect - you guys have not done much to help, in fact - you've hardly acknowledged the issue. I have gotten more help from another ISP in trying to resolve this. (I am actually not even connected with Cool Ideas at the moment)

If that's what Octotel require from you on my account before even being willing to assist me - then that's what needs to be done - I'm not going to sit around doing nothing while you blame Octotel - and Octotel in turn blame the ISPs - while I still pay full price for 5% of my connections in the evenings.
