If the VPN is assisting then it's possible the VPN has a local POP, you have local latency to the VPN and so re-transmits arent an issue once again. What is the VPN hostname you connect to?
Makes sense, now to see than winmtr joeline.

I have had it... I can't even read a single page from a comic site...
Ticket sent to CISP. Bloody ridiculous, I have to use my LTE data on my phone to get things done.

Hi guys

For the past few weeks I have been noticing high latency on my 20Mbps (OpenServe) connection. I can't stream video properly and use stuff like Imgur and DSTV Now etc. Something has definitely changed on Cool Ideas' network in the past month that has had a crippling effect on my connection. Has anyone else noticed this?

@PBCool
I use expressvpn, I just click the button and it connects. I do not know where it connects to

What VPN are you using? I'd like to give it a go. (Feel free to pm me if you Dont want to broadcast it)
Expressvpn, try it, they have a 30 day money back guarantee. I paid for a year in advance, so it is cheaper than the 12 dollars per month.

It says south africa so youre connecting to local server.
Still doesn't explain if last mile is causing packet loss, same should happen on vpn. Maybe it's mtu settings, and by tunneling they change somehow? I'm asking because I don't know what I'm talking about.

Hi All,
As mentioned I have been off ill so there is no way to respond to what has happened to this thread in the last few days.
Just to respond to most of the previous discussions around Octotel, In Cape Town a basic breakdown of our Topology is as follows:

Vumatel Trenched, NNI From Vumatels kit at IS Bree, across our backhaul to Teraco Rondebosch to one of our core networks (Core1), it's this portion that then connects directly to our London Core.
Vumatel Aerial, NNI From AEx's kit at Teraco Rondebosch, to a separate core network (Core2) which then interconnects to our other core (Core1), still within Teraco Rondebosch and off to London.
Octotels NNI connects into PPP Concentrators that interface with Core2, the same Core as Vumatel aerial
Existing Frogfoot NNI interconnects to Core1
New Frogfoot NNI interconnects to Core2

So considering most people are having issues on Octotel and Frogfoot and not much on Vumatel aerial (PPP) or Vumatel trenched (IPOE) this is why we focus on these networks and are working with them to resolve. I understand this is frustrating, but I dont see a reason why we would be prioritising Vumatel customers over any other network. Our Octotel interface currently peaks at around 25%, there is no conspiracy around shaping or prioritising just a bit of a process. Frogfoot have deployed a piece of kit in our environment do do monitoring from their side and we have implemented a new NNI to start, these things just take time to coordinate and configure without interrupting current services.

I hope this makes things a bit more clear, we are not hiding anything and have no reason to not just purchase more international bandwidth when we need it, of which we still have ample in all locations.

Yeah they have a local node, will dig up its address. Thanks

I VPNed into the office and loaded a site that is barely loading.
The result is the same, which to me indicates they are throttling regardless of protocol.

I used the following URL, there's photos on there that struggle to load on CISP + Octotel (and yes they download like a boss on Telkom LTE)
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9179/pi-in-a-dreamcast-vmu-build-wip/151?lang=en-GB&page=5
As per my other post not throttling, packet loss and this isn't affected when you bounce your traffic off a local host.

I work for another ISP and we are seeing packet loss across Octotel's network as well. We are busy investigating.

How embarrassing for octotel, and this is after 6 months?

So you know I use Supersonic and decided to just winmtr some IP's here and see what I can see.

winmtr to bbc.co.uk

winmtr to 154.0.5.238 not even sure where this ip is on their network and probably totally irrelevant but look at the loss.

What does that mean.

I appreciate your response and I hope you are feeling better PBcool.

I've been having issues with twitch since October and had a ticket open since November. Why has it taken till half way through January for CISP to do something about it? Why did it have to get to the point where everyone on Octotel is complaining and the internet is literally useless in the evenings for CISP to acknowledge something is wrong and start a process to fix it? Why wasn't this done back in November?
