Local is up for me, international is dead. Good thing I've got a decent VPN; Still have packet loss though, even locally

If local works (which is dead for me at the moment.. can't even reach MyBB) then I can VPN into the office and bypass it that way... let me see..

It looks like they have some issue at JINX (probably 100% congested port). Their support come with normal "do a speedtest to coolideas randburg and share results".

You guys saying "ask octotel"... it doesn't work that way. You'll deal with some first line helpdesk tech or social media operator who has no idea what is going on at high levels in a problem investigation. The FNOs are not geared to provide deep technical support to end users. That's the ISP's job - and at the level of problem of an NNI issue or a congested segment of the FNO network, that's not something that the ISP's first line support is going to know about either. These guys work off scripts and dashboards.

Paul is supremely competent at what he does - he's engaged at the right level to get this resolved but the reality is that it does take time to diagnose and identify issues - and this kind of issue is not cheap to fix so you won't find the FNO (or the ISP) just chucking new hardware in all over the place in the hopes that one of the changes will fix the problem.

Situation sucks but it is what it is, there's not a lot that can be done from our side...
Only when they leave it for long enough to become an issue. It shouldn't be a surprise when something gets congested. It would be progressive, and upgrade BEFORE it get's to 100%.
It sounds like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

I have not seen any evidence that this is a congestion/capacity issue on the Cool Ideas side though?

Not the ISP, because if you change ISP's you still have a problem, Octotel will disagree, and around and around we go, so Octotel's "exchange"or whatever.

Also, Frogfoot and slow single thread download complaints on this thread since middle of last year.

That also isn't receiving any tangible attention.

After digesting all the info since yesterday I am now 99.9% sure the problem lies solely with Octotel.

I also think these FISPs are all in "recover CAPEX mode" and are trying to provide services on a shoestring to recover financially from the expenditure of trenching etc.. and because of this they're cutting corners with their connection points into the backbone.

It definitely is cool ideas. via cool ideas upload/download to server at Hetzner is 98KB/s.
Then from a Seacom Connection it is 1.2MB/s
