If you're on GPON (Vumatel Aerial), you're going to get the inherent contention that comes from splitting a 1.25 Gbps port by x many homes. If you're on trenched, you have a dedicated 1 Gbps circuit to the nearest Vuma POP, each 24 port switch has 10G uplinks to the core. Then you have backhaul contention. Vumatel actively manages backhaul by making sure ports don't saturate and upgrades (generally) happen on time and before ports fill up. Then you have ISP contention. We don't work by the philosophy of buying X Gbps upstream bandwidth and sharing it between n many clients. We operate on a port basis across 4 datacentres with multiples of 10G ports into exchanges and upstream partners (and between facilities). When these ports reach a certain saturation level, we upgrade. So to actually nail down a contention ratio is almost impossible.

I never said we won't launch it on Aerial. Just that it is trenched for now. We have certain technical requirements for the 1Gbps service on GPon which they are working on.

I'm still not convinced about the performance on GPON.

GPON is 2.48Gbps down AFAIK? Plus you just reduce the number of splits, so should be fine/no impact on neighbors. If 1 person takes it and they reduce to 1:16, there's still enough for everyone to get 100Mbps, which I doubt every user on the network will utilize to 100% at the same time.

I doubt 1Gbps will ever be maxed out for near all tasks due to the server/device on the other end. Most of the time I'm using less than 10% of my 100Mbps line (though for some stuff it's because CISP now...(though I am referring to e.g. YouToube streaming at 4-12Mbps with a couple of seconds 25Mbps burst taking are of the entire video)).

My question is more if the ONT can actually handle it, cheaper ones usually max at like 400Mbps sustained, had that issue in my uncle's house before they replaced it.

At 1Gbps you also get to the point where your HDD can be a bottleneck.

Vuma is probably 1:32 right now, and the price difference between 100/200 and 1Gbps for a couple of 1Gbps users will definitely cover the cost difference or they wouldn't offer it.

Well, you'll find that the higher the speed, the less % utilization everyone uses, e.g. a 10Mbps line you have 2 YT videos maxing it out, on a 100Mbps line most would still only have 2 YT videos running, and most of YT is 1080p which they all are on already. Moving to 1Gbps will still not really increase it.

MS downloads would be local cached, FB again the speed increase past a certain point it doesn't matter (like YT), steam downloads are local cached and would be very short bursts at 1Gbps.

It's a completely different story than ADSL was.

Yes I really don't understand this. Middle of the day and internet barely usable. It not just international, but local content too.
Does anybody know if what we've been having is CISP or Vuma issues?
 
It is the first hop that is vomiting away my packets, so it is Vumatel. Again.

EDIT: CPE Blue Light and FX light shows connected, Have internet again but only local, International is dead, and ping, mtr , tracert all weird showing no results at all.

whats really annoying me of late is i stream the F1 from morning streams and i cant stream the 1080p stream at 6Mbps but when i stream it on my rain mobile at that rate its 100% fine, something is not right with the cisp network at the moment @TheRoDent @PBCool
 
Wow, really wishing a competent FNO would come install their own lines in my suburb so I can be rid of Vumatel!
 
Yeah, so they go down for 45 minutes, and we'll all pretend it never happened.
