So far not impressed at all, @CoolChick's escalation did absolutely nothing. Phoned them again spent 15 minutes on the phone only to find out that they have only submitted the request to Vumatel to have it configured now while I was on the phone with them and this is after I logged the call Monday morning already and spent 40 minutes on the phone with them yesterday.

On top of that I am now being told this can take 3 to 5 days to happen. Really not impressed with this service.

So after having Cool ideas retention department call and promise me the world.
I decided to give them 1 more chance.
I also upgraded my line to 1GB.
I was told all is done and active.
My new router with 1GB LAN ports arrives this morning.
Still on 100/100 ;/

Posted this in a different thread, will appreciate some feedback. I see a lot of issues in this thread, but I'm hoping that's the exception and not the norm?

Waking up this conversation quickly. Both Openserve (fibre in the air) and Vumatel (molested my driveway) rolled out in my neighbourhood recently. I am very happy with my uncapped 10mb Telkom ADSL (also have a ISIgnite backup account) but it looks like the R499 Openserve/Cool Ideas package is really good and will save me about R300 per month - can't see any other deal that comes close to it. Most of my neighbours are going for a Vumatel package though and avoiding Openserve.

Are you guys still happy with it? I probably use about 250GB a month mainly streaming DSTVnow, Youtube and Netflix. Is it worth moving to this deal? I know nothing about fibre so this is all a bit new to me.

@CoolChick :Not had any response yet. Yes I had the misfortune of dealing with the support manager. He claims you can't get more then the speeds I am getting from SA and my line is fine. As we can see from some of the results in this thread he is wrong as there are some getting close to linespeed...
 
Got my brother to join the CISP team, but so far he hasn't been receiving great support. He was suppose to be live from the 1st of April.

A lot of what CI can offer you depends on who provides the fiber infrastructure (in most cases). Most of my issues seem to come from Octotel under-catering in terms of bandwidth in my area. Recent upgrades fixed things for a while but for the last 24-36 hours problems have arisen again.

However, that being said, others have had issues with them as an ISP. For example, Twitch is a coinflip, as well as some other less than legal streaming services that people make use of. Support can also be problematic, depending on your expectations/the actual problem. Most of the complaints here have come from people either having unrealistic expectations regarding problem resolution, or they've been "kept in the dark" unintentionally by CI's lack of communication and gotten pissed off as a result.

My thoughts on this is that CI has problem undergone massive growth and never planned to deal with this amount of customers. The fact they only have added another dedicated rep on the forum recently seems to point in this direction.

So yeah, my 2c would be try them, but don't sign a contact. Their support is a bit lacking right now so don't expect super quick turnarounds if you are going to sign up with them. In their defence, I have yet to deal with a single ISP in SA who has managed to get this right. Particularly for advanced users such as us.

I've written a PHP script to execute the above iperfs and speedtests (requirements being php, iperf3 and speedtest-cli). It's a far cry from perfect as I haven't touched PHP in about 2 years, and I've only tested it on Linux. But it may be a start for us having a single script to run for diagnostics.
