That's not very nice ! ;-/
They aren't being nice to me either.

(plus I was in a very bad mood as had buffering on watching screen share of a friend on work I was doing, he's in Europe, so that international bandwidth is quite an issue)

Yeah look - i know its frustrating when your internet is not working properly, trust me, I'd prob throw my toys as well, but @CoolChick's been a trooper here it seems since she's joined, so i hope she can get you sorted man ! All the best !

Well, I never got a reply to any ticket, that's why I started opening more. I've also never received a call back after the second time logging that I want one. @PBCool seems to permanently ignore me as well on this platform, I think I've received one reply from him in total.

Plus it's getting worse over time, I used to get 30% of my line, now 10% of my line.

And I am the one in the house that gets blamed when stuff buffers. 11Mbps is definitely not enough for 3 simultaneous streams if one of them is ShowMax HD.

EDIT:
Cool Ideas seems to have removed their 100Mbps package from the Frogfoot portal?

50/50 is still there.

so is 200/200

But that 200Mbps is quite broken.

Site still has 100/100:

Notice how it says Unshaped?

Btw, me asking for refund:
Refunds
  • Cool Ideas will not credit any customer because of Fibre downtime caused by maintenance on a fibre line, break in connection, power failures, slow speeds caused by FNO’s network, load shedding or any reason caused by third parties.
It's Cool Ideas who are causing the slow speed and are not replying to tickets, so I'll ask for a partial refund.

Yeah - i hear you bud - i hear you ! BTW - if you open new tickets or respond to existing ones on their system you get pushed to the bottom of the list - then it takes even LONGER. So try to not reply too much - i know its prob hard- because i did the same thing in the past out of frustration. Rather give them a call and speak to someone on the phone.

That's got to be a joke? 4 days wait and I ping the ticket makes it go to the bottom?

international has gone again in Cape Town. Come on boys...we expect better from you.

Octotel Cape Gate

Smooth sailing here, touch wood.

My opinion of all this. Octotel used crappy equipment for Rondebosch, mis-configured it or damaged it somehow. There are large parts of Cape Town that seem to have no issues with Octotel but for some reason Southern Suburbs is a problem area.

I'm glad yo hear yours is fixed though. Hope it stays that way!

It was fixed before, then it went downhill again. Obviously something changed once more, that is why it is fine now. I am however not convinced it is a permanent fix that was applied. I rather expect it to go anytime. Hopefully there will be a permanent solution. You have been suffering more than anyone else here.

As someone in Kenilworth/Claremont, my line speed has gone up to close to max, even during peak, but now I'm having to deal with random ****ing timeouts. I do empathise with the others regarding the frustration they are having regarding poor communication (I pm'd @TheRoDent on Saturday and thought he would at least send me a "hi, got your message today" as I sent him multiple messages over the weekend, but nada), and even I'm starting to lose my patience (and no, I'm not going to call your call center, I have done that once and it was a complete waste of time/energy/money).

Even though I suspect the problem lies with Octotel, I'm not one of those people to throw their toys out the cot in general. I'll just switch ISPs after telling @PBCool @TheRoDent @CoolChick this:

You don't need to provide the customer with a solution as soon as they have a problem, but you do need to at least acknowledge their complaint.

But we'll see if it gets to that. Hopefully someone in their service team replies to this issue soon, or I feel I may be hunting for a new ISP at the end of the month just out of principle.

Edit. Gaming is one of the few things I enjoy in my life, and I play competitively. Every single game I play has timeouts at the WORST possible moment and it's really, REALLY starting to get old FAST.

Edit2. Are there any network diagnostic tools I can use to maybe help CI along? I've just been doing this manually by pinging my router (which never times out) and comparing it to pinging a website (which will completely lose traffic randomly for 2-4 pings), but maybe there's something I can run overnight to gather more data?

CISP is definitely having issues of some kind for the last month and a bit.

Ive given up making noise over it these days because I just don't have the time to be upset about it anymore.

Right this moment again they seem to have their daily routing changing that seems to be the norm lately on/off every single day. Case in point ping to UK goes from 141ms to 179ms between the different routing and international speed from from acceptable above 100Mbit to around 30-50Mbit whenever they change to this higher latency route for whatever the reason might be that they do that.

CISP should be well aware of this ongoing issue. I am not some great detective who notice this because of black magic I just wish CISP would make a post here that they are aware of the routes changing daily and it is done for A or B reasons and being resolved.

They also have an ongoing issue of intermittent packetloss on their cpt to joburg link, mostly during peak times. When i run mtr the first point of packetloss always starts at the hop in joburg.

Yep but recently they seem to block nearly 100% of icmp packets on their core routers. Might be related to a short while ago constant DDOS attack to the network they reported.

The only packetloss result from mtr that is really meaningful is to look at the packets outside cisp routers usually 1 or 2 hops before the destination server.
